Smoke from my HR23-700 today. Opened the case to find a capacitor (or other small pill looking device) had shorted out, burning the power board plastic about 3 mm all around. Terrible smell. Airing out the house for hours. I'm hoping the fix is as easy as replacing the power board. However I cannot find a HR23 power board for sale. Are the power boards for the 21, 22, 23, ans 24s the same? Are they interchangible? Thank you!!

You probably won't find one. Just call and order a replacement DVR. It's only $20 for shipping. Free if you have DirecTV's Equipment Protection Plan.

Yep, and I have one. Makes me look at it each time I pass it.

Havent we really read about only a handful of failures so far? I dont know if there is way to tally it but I'll be there have been less than 10 reported failures, and I believe only the 3 reported fried boards with smell and smoke getting out.

What alerts me is zero reported prior, and suddenly we see 3 or 4....

Don't forget they are also probably approaching that magic age.....You'll see the same thing from the HR24's as well, just like we saw with the 20's, and 21's.

Mine blew out about a year ago and just got around to replacing 3 bulging caps but still doesn't work...must be a different component on the power board that fails...
