Sometimes when rewinding on my HR20-100, the current image freezes for several seconds and doesn't skip backwards even though the white marker is moving and if I hit play, the rewind has actually been working. The "freeze up" can last 3-5 seconds or sometimes 10 or more.

I've noticed this definitely on live TV, but I am pretty sure it happens in recorded shows too. The problem seems to occur more often if using RWD level 1 than a level 2 or 3. However if I just missed something in the last few seconds that's when the problem is most annoying.

Is this a known/common complaint? I tried searching around, but couldn't find this issue in the troubleshooting guide or in the threads that I searched/scanned.

Edit: whoops, I thought I was in the HR20 Q&A forum when I submitted this, if a moderator would kindly move this thread I'd appreciate it.

Is this occurring on all channels, HD only, or more specifically just HD locals from D*? My guess is this is your local HDs from the satellite. Which means its about MPEG4 trickplay smoothness which is a know issue, there are literally hundreds of posts about this.

This better get fixed before Sept, or there are going to be a LOT more posts.

Well, there you have it then. Its an issue that has been discussed a lot, and there are lots of posts about all the complaints with MPEG4 trick play not being "smooth like my Tivo" etc...I believe its an issue being worked on, but MPEG4 trickplay functions may never be as smooth as what we got accustomed to with MPEG2.
