Given that the Pens will sell out every game this season, and that last year they had the second highest local ratings in the entire NHL, it's fairly clear that you have no idea what you are talking about.

The video stuttering issue was all over the place...apparently the 90's broadcast was fine. I was able to get the stuttering to stop on 628-1. I changed channels & stuff like that to make it stop. Nothing helped on the NHL sub channel (765-1?) though. Audio was out of sync on all I believe.

Apparently hitting "Replay" fixed the stuttering for some.

Just because the are the only choice to be your "home" team doesn't justify the RSN territories being changed. It all come down to what advertisements that they want you to see. Morgantown is close to Pittsburgh so they see SW Pennsylvania advertising.

Morgantown is in the Pittsburgh DMA, even though they are much closer physically to the Clarksburg-Weston DMA.

Which is good for me, since it's nigh-impossible to get Clarksburg channels OTA with a regular antenna. Rabbit ears can forget about anything but WNPB.

628-1 and the NHL CI sub- channel were completely unwatchable for me last evening. On 628-1, the volume was way low and with constant moving of the video screen, it gave me a headache….identical issues on the NHL HD sub-channel. I switched over to 94 late in the first period and the audio & video signals were flawless all night.

I tried 628-1 early in the 3rd period but the same problems were still there. Disappointing to see all these bugs in new MPGE4 format, but I'm overall happy D* has the FSN-PITT HD signal up. Maybe these problems will get better over the next few Pens games.

I hope that the Pens play improves as well - this is a bad start of season.

Can't speak to all of the issues on FSN-PIT-HD. But, as far as the video stuttering - if you just hit pause and then play all of the stuttering went away. I went back and forth between some recorded episodes and the pause play worked each time.

The stuttering was very distracting. Oh well, it was their first day with DIRECTV in HD.

I'm sure D will get FSN Pittsburgh straighten out. Then we will just need someone to get the Pens straighten out :( I can't believe they are off to such a bad start this year :girlscrea

Yep, I can't really disagree with that. It is apparently wishful thinking on my part. I didn't know if there was a way around it, other than getting the sports pack. I guess $12.00 per month is not that bad.

D* authorizes the RSN based on whatever service location is listed on your account

Hi All, I'm hoping you can help a fellow Pittsburgh fan out. I'm new to the forums, been a DTV subscriber for about a month. I live in Central IL, and only went with DTV because of the Sunday Ticket so I can watch my beloved Steelers without going to a bar and putting up with annoying Bears fans every Sunday.

Anyway, I digress, when I signed up I was thrilled to find out that I actually got FSNP so I could watch the Mike Tomlin show and the weekly press conference. Here is the problem though, I've set up a series recorded on my DTV DVR HR20-700. One out of 4 tries has recorded successfully. For the other three I get the "searching for authorized content" message for like 30 seconds and then the delete option. I searched the forums and everything I could find on this surrounded PPV. I have yet to try it on the HD version of the channel. And this is the only program I have had that problem with. Is anyone else having the same problem or is there any reason I should not be able to record the press conference? Thanks for any help you can give me.

The Mike Tomlin show is blacked out. Same thing when Cowher was coach. A few seasons ago it was not blacked out, but I think this might be the 3rd season it was blacked out.

Wow, thats too bad. Thanks for the quick response though. Does that mean I can't watch it live either? And was I just lucky that it didn't get blacked out the one time I recorded it. Oh well, it was a bonus anway. I do love the Sunday Ticket.

It is possible they don't blackout every showing. I'll have to take a look and see..

Someone must've pressed the wrong button somewhere. Halfway through the pregame show tonight it switched to BTNHD and then the DirecTV slide.

West Virginia easily divides into three parts for sports.

The northern third of the state, consisting of the Wheeling-Weirton area and the Fairmont-Clarksburg-Morgantown area, is historic Pittsburgh country. Pirates and Steelers. The eastern "panhandle" (which is in the Washington DMA) has always been Orioles/Redskins territory. The southern half of the state, which represents about 70% of the population, is Reds. In football, back in the pre-merger days, the Browns were the NFL team, and in modern times it splits between the Bengals and Steelers. The state has never taken much note of the NBA or NHL on a home team basis. In recent years, the economic situation has tied the southern part of the southern half of the state to the North Carolina Triad-Triangle-Metrolina regions, and some following of the Panthers has developed. If Charlotte or the Triad ever got a baseball team, it would have a following there.

The division is easy because the population centers are bounded by large swaths of pretty much unoccupied land, so the drawing of a black line border is not necessary. Unfortunatly the claims of the various teams overlap with crazy overinclusive zones, and the cable companies don't care.

For a long time, the Morgantown cable company carried Home Sports Entertainment and Orioles/Caps games instead of KBL/Prime for Pirates/Penguins. During the cup runs people had to head to sports bars to see the Pens in action.

I'm enjoying the Pens playing Carolina in beautiful HD! (Update: Pens win in a shootout)

The only thing missing is the voice of Mike Lange...

Buy Sam a drink and get his dog one too! :D

Unfortunately, both the Mike Tomlin show and the Mike Tomlin Press Conference are blacked out to anyone outside the Pittsburgh market. This is an NFL mandated rule. I'm not sure how you got the Mike Tomlin show once. As for the Mike Tomlin Press conference, FSN Pittsburgh replays it on Tuesdays during Savran on Sportsbeat and it ISN'T blacked out then. Only the live press conference at Noon is affected.
