Why is the "new" SNY on 625 broadcast in 720p, it used to be 1080i. And now channel 683, another "new" SNY broadcast in the original 1080i? Is 683 the old spotbeam and 625 the new satellite? Is the spotbeam going to go away? I don't want any extra conversion done on the signal.

Same question here - why is SNYHD on 2 channels now? Same question for YESHD.

    622 and 684 YES are both 1080i. 625 SNY is 720p but 683 SNY is 1080i.

WTF!?!?!? why add YESHD and SNYHD at this point, baseball season on these channels is over. why not leave these as spot beams (at least until bball season starts.... ie when YESHD will start broadcasting live events) and give us FSN:NY-HD and MSG-HD so we can actually watch some live content!

683 is only for you Tri-Staters. The rest of the country can see 622. I'm sure it's temporary.

So eventually 683 will go away? So both are MPEG4, but 1 is CONUS off D10 (622) and the other one is spot beam off another sat (683)?

i just don't understand why they would put 683 & 684 up there for "NYC customers" and let the rest of the country view it on 622 and 625. i thought the whole idea was to mirror the SD channel number so it's easy to remember. the majority of people who know what channel number these are on are in the NYC market... why not let us have the original channel numbers and let the rest of the country view it on 683 & 684.

Well if it is temporary someone needs to tell D* to fix 625 as it should be in 1080i.

Simple. Because FSN-NY and MSG haven't allowed DirecTV to offer them at this point.

then why are the on they (MSGHD & FSN:NY-HD) included on the programming line up (D* magazine) for the month of october? or why are the up on the sat in testing mode? i find it extremely hard to believe that D* would publish a channel as being available mid october if they didn't have a carriage agreement in place at this point.

Lets not let this thread get off topic. There is important stuff here. Let D* fix SNY first and worry about other channels later.

Does anyone know how this will play out when baseball returns? Since all Mets home games are in HD on SNY, but the baseball package only picks up a few of them on the HD feed... will we now be able to watch these games in HD if we've got the sports pack and the baseball package?

We are all assuming that indeed will be the case with the new national RSNs and EI (Superfan) next year.

Okay, so the only real difference is this is now nationwide?

But the most desirable content is going to be the mainstream sports (currently baseball only, right?) and will require a sports package, plus the 5 lnb dish and latest HD receiver to watch outside of the NY metro area?

(I guess one can now 'move' to NYC from anywhere in the nation, though!)
