Just commenting on your original message (above) where you said what got you was after the "The" it was alphabetized. Not saying it's right... just saying that's how alphabetizing works.

None of the DirecTivos are considered to be HD receviers anymore. Swapping them out will only get you an SD-DVR.

I will get this back on topic.

    +10000.

I think there is definitely need a search of the play list. I would find this much more useful than DLB. What do we have to do to get this on DirecTV's radar?

I Definitely Would Use That Alot More Than DLB because I think DLB Bogs down the CPU and causes alot of problems for an Overtaxed CPU.

I was gonna say that, but so many people responded to Stuart Sweet's sticky "What are your thoughts on DLBs?" thread that I didn't want to get them all riled up.

What we need is for a Mod to make this thread a "sticky" thread and perhaps D* will take notice. Altho, they might have plans for resolving this issue as we speak. But, how to know?

I've still never used DLBs. I have tried them. Still don't get it. I can understand using them on plain receivers, but to have them on DVRs seems to be a misuse of the DVR. I really don't want to argue about the wonders of DLBs.

Last night we decided to put all the HRs into the "Local Playlist" mode. The UPL is just too long to deal with. I realize that a few of us with multiple HRs will probably not sway D* into fixing the problem, if it is a problem for most folks, which I doubt.

I'm just gonna give up and deal with it in this manner until something changes. I have multiple HRs in each room that I use for viewing and I have mirrored recordings for the most part, so using the Local Playlist function will alleviate my frustration with the UPL and I'll just use the UPL for housekeeping.

I have 3 DVRs, but only one with a 2 TB drive. I keep the non 2 TB dvrs on "local", and the 2 TB on "all" (most of the time). The amount of clutter with no box specific folders makes no sense at all with large drives, but we haven't been able to persuade the powers that be to give us the option of box based folders in MRV.

I've yet to go below 88% free on the 2 TB drive, and I still find the playlist a pain to deal with. I'd trade "search" in a second for folder based boxes, but I'm not holding my breath. They could make it an option.

We've been through the UPL discussion (unified playlist like we have now) a lot, so I'll just shut up now. It serves no purpose.:)

How hard would it be for Directv to lift the code for "Smart Search" and place it in the List Function with a little code modification for the List Function.

The Code is already there but just needs to be modified to pertain to the "UPL" rather than a Smart Guide Search. Or give us the Ability to Select Which DVRs we want to see incorporated into the UPL!!!

Shutting up does no good. Complaining does no good, no matter how logical we are. I don't think we'll get anywhere no matter what we do or how rational we are. So I'll just go back to how I used to watch the HRs. My first thought when I had Ethernet MRV was, "How bad will the UPL be when it's loaded?" Now I have a pretty good idea what the answer is. Such a great idea, and such a deplorable way to implement it. And I know this is D*'s fault. No blame can possibly be put on anyone else.

The UPL is truly horrible if you have multiple HRs with large drives. That's a fact that I don't think any rational person could possibly argue with. Truly a boon to folks with a couple stock HRs and a couple receivers, but for those of us who like to watch entire series in one fell swoop, it is simply unmanageable. I think this problem far outweighs the lack of DLBs, but the DLB situation was addressed with a sticky thread that had to be hard for D* to ignore.

We just have to get used to the idea that folks that have the ability to have large Playlists are gonna suffer as we do when an HR goes south and we're stuck with an external HDD that has recordings that will never be viewed. We've complained about that for years and D* turns a deaf ear to those complaints. This is just another issue that will probably never be resolved.

The problem is that we're not numerous enough to get D* to take notice of the issue. I can't wait to see what my UPL looks like next May. :eek2:

I can't even easily scroll to the bottom of the UPL on ANY of my HRs. They all freeze up and stack commands and then go farther than I want to go. Then I have to scroll backwards and the same thing happens. Easier to ignore it and use the Local Playlist function.
