I am occasionally getting some "drop outs" in audio and slight pixelization on my new unit. D* had called saying the DVR (my pre-production HR23) had reported some drop out and did they need to fix something. I said I had a new unit already on its way and I thought it was being addressed.

So after the new unit came and was installed, I was still having some stuttered speach and random pixelization .... (1-2 times a night) drop-outs on the Olympics for example. So I am wondering if my signal strengths are low. (NOTE: My dish was put in when the installer didn't even know much about the dish, let alone how to align it...)

    What are typical signal levels?

    Here is what I have:
    A) Showing my HR23 and my HR20 for comparisions,
    B) Clear night, no weather at all.

    Observations:
    1) HR20 and HR23 are similar but as I have seen others post, the HR23 signal strengths are slightly higher.
    2) There are a few odd readings highlighted in red.

The bottom line question are they just too low (low to mid 80's for most)?

Your numbers are fine. The odd numbers mean you are probaly on the edge of a spot beam. When you had the drop outs, what was the weather like? Was it possiblw that your dish was moving because of wind?

No, not windy at all and the drop outs are fairly regular.

You know, I tuned my dish so I get 100's on my peak signals on all of the satellites, and I still get rain fade during a moderate shower. I never had a problem with this until my slimline dish was installed. I guess the sd signals are a lot more forgiving than the hd ones.

Are all of your connections tight. In the digital world, drop outs mean loss of signal and cable connectors are the worst offender. Since your numbers look good, I would venture to guess that you have an intermittentt cable connection or your unit is problematic.

As for the olympics drop outs, I have seen those also. It may be a network feed problem.

Maybe "drop outs" was a bad phrasing ... more of pixelization on parts of the image and the audio stutters.

I think my connections are good. I use the Thomas & Betts Snap and Seal connections and have had very good success with them. Not really a lot to check with those.

If others are getting them on the Olympics then maybe it is a feed issue.

Yesterday I had the same Olympic show recording on both units (HR20 and HR23). Went to the same sections of the recording (a beach volleyball game yesterday) that had an incident (green pixelized image on the bottom half of the screen) ... both my HR20 and HR23 showed the same problem.

So I am guessing it is either my feed or the feed to D*.

Probably the feed. I see it here also and only on the Olympics.
