So finally upgraded because I want locals in SD, so I got an SL3 to get the 99(s). I've got the thing up, and spot on signals on 101. (98s, 99s, 100s) I tried dithering, but I can't get a damn thing on any any 99 or 103. I have an HR24 with a BBC installed. I would think I should be able to get something on 99 or 103, but nothing. I've dithered the thing according to all of the videos out there. The cable run is probably close to 100 feet. No switches, directly connected into the LNB.

    (Don't know if this is anything, but I have 0's on the 4, 12, 20, 28 transponders on 101???)

Satellite transponders (32 total at 101ยบ)

    1-8 97 96 97 0 100 99 100
    9-16 98 96 97 0 100 98 100
    17-24 96 97 95 0 99 100 96
    25-32 98 96 99 0 100 94 97

All I want are locals in SD, not HD. Thoughts? Bad BBC? Cable issues? I don't see how it can be alignment.. but I'm not the expert here.

I'm open to any and all suggestions. Close to calling DTV for a service call.

    Thanks in advance.

    Tim

What settings are you using in Satellite setup on the HR24? Should be Slimline 3/Multiswitch.

WHen you say SL3, you are using the LNB with 4 outputs correct?

How many wires come from your DISH to the HR24? Just 1? If it's only 1 remove the BBC.

Non-SWM, 3LNB with 4 outputs. I have it configed on the receiver as a Slimline 3. Is it normal to have 0's on the those transponders on 101?

..and just one wire to the HR24.. I don't have DVR service, so I only need one. I had a D10 that went bad, and they sent me this box free of charge.

I thought I needed a BBC with an HR24? No?

Yes, they are spot beams. You do need a BBC. Run through satellite setup again. If it still doesnt work, you either have a bad connection, or a bad BBC. Do you have a HR24 or H24? If the first one, make sure you are using the #1 input, and have the DVR set to single tuner if you only have one cable. If its a H24, receiver, just run through setup again, make sure its slimline3/multiswitch.

Sorry, it is the H24.. only one input..

I'll run through the setup before.. but I've played with that quite a bit.. I'll call DTV as well and see if I can get them to send me another BBC. End of the day, probably not alignment right?

Id say with 100's on 101 sat, unless your tilt is WAY off, you should be getting some signal on 99 and 103. Anything is possible, but you sound like you have done the dish part right. You sure nothing is on the coax cable between the Dish and the BBC? Like an old OTA antenna joiner, or something other than a grounding block?

One other question, can you actually watch the channels on 101? If not, you might be aimed at 110 by mistake. Seen that happen before.

No, if he was aimed at 110 he would only get three transponders. Those look like 101 signals to me.

Yes, but Dish also has transponders on 110 which might show up, thats why I wanted to make sure he actually had video on 101.

Dish does but they won't show up on the 101 signal strength screen from the receiver if you point the dish incorrectly. The DirecTV signal strength is really the Bit Error Rate (BER) and can only be obtained from things the receiver can actually receive. A simple meter that is actually reporting a real signal strength might see the dish TPs but I'm not sure about that.

FYI, the other spot beams on 101 not mentioned are 18 and 26. These are probably his SD locals.

Thanks for the suggestions folks. Yes, I'm getting all of the SD programming from 101 fine. Just can't get the SD locals from 99. So the dish is at my cottage so I won't have a look at it again until this weekend. I'm taking another BBC with me and a small TV so I can check the cable situation. Thanks all for the suggestions.

Any chance your SD locals are on 119? Is this a separate account for your cottage, or part of your primary account? How far is your cottage from your main residence (same spot beam coverage)? What type of dish and setup do you have at your main residence?
