It may be too early in the season to tell. It might be as simple as not getting facetime or being edited out.

Someone mentioned the composition of the Allstars - good point, and it may signal what kinds of dance we see. I have to think that the Allstars were picked after the top 10 were selected so they would have meshing styles.

    We'll see...

Thank you, thank you!!! Alex is in! It sounds like Nigel is afraid of another Danny situation where he is clearly the best dancer, but won't be the favorite. I hope Alex can adapt and show some personality. If he can show the passion that he must feel to give up his career for this show, then he'll do fine. :D

Well at least we know he'll get one vote a week...... Now that you mention Danny, I totally get that same vibe from Alex. Amazingly talented dancer with not an ounce of personality.

The biggest disappointment to me, not a lot of diversity in styles. Of the ten who made it, seven are contemporary dancers. Could be a bad sign. As it is, I don't have a favorite. No one is really truly memorable. Alex can dance but doesn't have the likability factor, Billy was going to get in regardless (did no one else see that coming?), and there's not one girl who just stands out.

By now we should all be used to this fatal flaw, Charise. Any time you leave it up to the vote, the popular one (not necessarilly the best one) gets the prize. It's the nature of the beast. I would expect some kind of on-air quirp about that from Nigel early on. Nonetheless, I too was glad to see Alex make it ... not necessarilly for his ability, but for the future (or lack thereof) if he didn't make the top 10.

And yes, Jody, there was never a question about Billy making it. They just had to go through the dramatics, as usual... same thing with Kent "Wapakoneta" Boyd.

Even with so many contemporary dancers, everyone will still have to do all the styles assigned them. That means that lots of contemporary dancers go home first, as seems to happen each season.

I think last night's episode showing Alex and the guy who injured his leg (I'm awful with names!) both tearing up was an effort to humanize them.

Remember that without the giant screens, no one past the third row is able to see the dancer's expressions. The "likeability factor" doesn't exist without a camera in your face. Normally in dance, you show your emotions by your carriage, gestures, and attitude rather than facial expressions. :D

Very true about us at home not seeing the expressions on the dancers faces Charise; but (there's always a but), the judges have the best seat in the house; and if they don't "feel connected" that close, imagine how it is for those who don't have something invested in the dancer.

We'll be watching, but for me I truly don't care about any of the dancers as I have in seasons past.

Apparently it's gonna be a great show tonight .. Looking forward to that. Dancers look good this year and the pros (all stars) shouldn't hurt the performances.

I suspect tonight will be a "preview" show with competition starting next week. They started with that idea last season. Plus tonight's show was taped earlier this week .. It's not Live.

The All Stars may have been selected after the top 10, but the delivery of the news to the top 10 was relatively recent (a month ago maybe?) .. That part was definitely after the all stars were announced via Twitter.

I enjoyed the show also. Really some excellent work by the dancers and the choreographers. :D

Almost like a class reunion. :)

I really enjoyed watching my favorites from seasons past. But I was mostly impressed by the level of talent the contestants showed vis-a-vis the allstars. :icon_hroc
