It was really eerie. I was sitting out in fron of my house camera ready waiting for the Shuttle/747 to fly over my house (I'm pretty much in the JFK approach and EWR takeoff paths. Nothing happened, then I saw it on TV flying over Liberty Park (about 7-8 miles ATCF from where I am) so I gave up and took a ride to Sam's Club.

While waiting for a red light on the corner of US RT1 the 747/Shuttle flew directly in front to me heading S->N on what I assume was it's second loop over Liberty Park & lower Manhattan. It was so close and so low it looked like I could throw a rock at it and hit it. I can't imagine it was above 1000 feet although news reports said 1500. I went for my cell phone and by the time I got the camera app up it was gone. I did see Enterprise in D.C. but this was one of the most awe inspiring sights I have seen. It would have made an incredible photo since the sun was pretty much behind it.

I tried to watch it make it turn over the Tappen Zee bridge, but I didn't spot it.

I was on top of the cliffs in Weehawken, NJ to see Enterprise come home to NYC. Here's a few pictures I took. What an incredible sight.

I also had the pleasure of seeing Atlantis lift off a few years ago on STS-125. Words can't describe how amazing THAT was!

Look at fire-mans... They stop moving to more serious accident to watch the landing ?!

No. They came up there specifically to watch the landing (as did all the other vehicles that you see pulled to the side of the road).

I see only one fire truck ... in a middle of the shot - "to watch" ? Umm - wouldn't be better if they'll stay on own duties ?

Right. Just the one was there. I'm sure if a call came out they would have responded without delay.

Wish I could take credit, but alas, I was driving to work about 10 miles away at that time.

Yes - it traversed the Hudson River twice - once up, once down.

I know NASA has some T-38's , and the cabin looks like a 2 seater. The F-5 was more intended for the export market.

Although the picture isn't really clear enough to tell for sure.

I probably should know that since my AFSC at Clark included F-5s. But all of them on that base were owned by another country like you said.
