Who in the world do I need to complain to that my local RSN HD feeds stink. almost like watching fine art. I really thought they would have fixed this by now but I guess not. Any suggestions? Atlanta market btw.

I continue to have the same issue on Braves/SportSouth satcasts. Some nights it's unwatchable, others completely clear. All from Turner Field, all on SS. Who DO we call?

It almost has to be a Directv problem. Not sure who to contact, but FWIW the same broadcast on Comcast cable Bravesvision Is perfect.

When I first noticed this a couple of months ago, I called DirecTV to complain, as it was pretty much unwatchable. I was ASSURED that it was not their problem, but a poor quality HD feed from SS. But last night it was the same old story...modern art for the baseball age.

This isn't an occasional "blip" in the signal, this is an unwatchable broadcast. You would think that somebody at SportsSouth would tune in every now and then...

There has to be a problem in the handshake between the SS video feed and D* if the cable simulcast doesn't have the same issues. The audio is always fine and uninterrupted, only problem is the massive video artifacts and pixellation. It really is ridiculous and has been going on for months. I'm going to email D* tech support today and will report back in this thread; I would encourage others to do the same. DB

Here is what I submitted to D* through the website:

"For several months there has been a problem in the handshake between the SportsSouth HD video feed and DirecTV which results in substantial video artifacts and pixellation during Braves' games which make the HD broadcast unwatchable. The audio feed is flawless and uninterrupted during the video freezes and pixellation. It is not a "SportSouth" problem, as cable and standard definition DirecTV simulcasts do not have the same video issues. It really is ridiculous and has been going on for months. I am confident others have complained about this problem and hope that your tech team can resolve it promptly. Please advise, thanks."

I would encourage others to make similar submissions today so the D* prioritizes this longstanding problem.

And here is the predictable D* response. I am not willing to sit through a 30 min phone call with D* tech support only to be told to RBR my HR20 or that my dish needs realignment. I plan to continue the conversation by email. I hope that other Atlanta-area D* subscribers will make similar efforts so that they will at least acknowledge this is a transmission-related, not hardware, problem.

    Dear Mr. B---,

Thanks for writing and informing us of your issues with reception on Sport South HD. I'm sorry about any inconvenience this might have caused you. This usually happens if something is interfering with your satellite reception.

Here are some basic troubleshooting steps you can try to fix the problem. On some DIRECTV receivers there is a reset button inside of the access card door. If your receiver has a reset button, you can simply press it to reset your receiver. If resetting the receiver doesn't fix the problem, you may find some additional help at directv.com/troubleshooting

Otherwise, please call our technical support center at 1-800-531-5000 and select the option for technical assistance. Our Technical Support agents are trained to walk you through a number of troubleshooting steps which are too difficult to try to talk through over email. Also, you may find some helpful information at the DIRECTV Technical Help forums. Just visit http://forums.directv.com/pe/index.jsp to find answers to your questions. I've also forwarded the problem to our command center to verify issues with reception.

Just a reminder, to make sure that you continue to receive all of our HD programming - including new HD programming we’re launching later this year - you will need to make sure that a device called a B-band converter is connected to each Satellite-In port on your DIRECTV H20 or DIRECTV HR20 receiver. The B Band Converter came in the carton with your receiver and if you had professional installation, it is most likely already connected.

For instructions on how to check for B Band Converter connection or to order one, go to directv.com/bbc

Thanks again for writing, we appreciate your patience and understanding and stay tuned to directv.com for the latest news and information about our services.

    Sincerely,

    Melanie C.

I haven't received the SportsSouth HD broadcast in months. I've called 2x and found the CSRs to be clueless.

One tried to tell me that the not authorized message was because the game wasn't being broadcast in HD - yet it shows in the guide as such and most of you can see it.

The other CSR said that the HD version of the game was being blacked out by the broadcaster. I questioned as to why they would advertise the game as being broadcast in HD, but then decide to black out the HD version of the game ... *crickets*.

I e-mailed them today, but am sure I'll get some lame answer ...

I am glad that I am not the only one who sees this channel and am disgusted by how terrible it is....

I hope they fix it up some in the future

I explained in a reply email that the problem cannot be hardware but needs to be looked at on the D* side and got this response shortly thereafter:

    <<Dear Mr. B---,

Thanks for writing us back and letting us know your concern. I'm sorry to hear about the problems you have had with your HD programming. I just wanted to let you know that we received your email and I have forwarded it to a specialist who will research your email and follow up with you within the next 24 hours. For immediate assistance, please call us at 1-800-531-5000.

    Sincerely,

I must say I appreciate the responsiveness but we will see where it gets us.

Again, I would encourage others in the Atlanta area to make the effort to raise the issue with D* so that it isn't ignored.

The inconsitency of this problem is aggravating. Tonight's broadcast was as flawless as last night's was terrible. It's been this way--on and off--all season long with SportSouth and D*.

UPDATE: Got a call at home last night from a D* "specialist" who said the on-again, off-again SportsSouth HD problems are not an "official" known issue but they would look into it. He declined to acknowledge whether the long-standing problems were "unofficially" known to D*, although he did suggest he had seen other emails complaining about the issue.

As WERA689 notes, last night's HD broadcast was flawless. One side note: when I initially tune to Ch. 96 the screen is always filled with large green pixellated blocks which clear up within a second or so. This happens everytime I change the channel and tune back to 96. Anybody else seeing this?

On what channel are you getting SportsSouth HD? I live in Upstate, South Carolina and Sports South and Fox Sports Net South are the local sports networks. However, I don't receive either of them in HD, just SD. They're on 630 and 631.

Last night on Ch 95 and 96 (think that's right), there were 2 HD MLB games on. Both were blacked out since I don't have MLB EI. Do you have to have the MLB EI package to get Sportssouth or FSNS in HD?

Frankly, not a huge fan of the Braves but when college football season rolls around would love to get Fox Sports Net college football games in HD. Right now, I don't see any HD channels for Fox Sports Net or Sports South on my dish. What am I missing and what do I need to do?

I've had the HD package for about 2 months and never seen any Braves game flipping through the channels show up in HD on these channels. Every now and then, there will be one on ESPN HD or ESPN 2 HD.

The game that was on last night was broadcast by FoxSportsNet. The folks complaining about reception issues noted it was with SportsSouth.

I also wondering why I don't receive Braves in HD. I receive 630 and 631, but neither are ever in HD. The games on 94 and 95 are never the Braves and are always blacked out.

I don't know if they are working on the problem or not but the broadcast tonight has been almost flawless with sportsouth HD. I hope it keeps up and gets a little better. Still light pixelation but nothing as bad as the other night YMMV.

My issues were bad pixelization or no signal. Now it looks great.
