I am 95% sure they do... and here's why.

Last spring when Brodeur was chasing 551 wins the MSG+HD feed was simulcast on the NHL Network. Similarly, this fall there was a CSN Philly game available on the NHL Network.

What it would appear is that when there is money on the line the "terrestrial loophole" RSNs (like CSN Philly and MSG in the case of HD) find ways to get their feed, in HD, to the NHL. Ironic how the whole "we don't distribute via satellite" is really a matter of convenience.

My read on it is this: MSG has made a deal with DirecTV for MSGHD - but they won't dance with FiOS. CSN Philly made a deal with FiOS, but won't dance with DirecTV or Dish. As long as the "terrestrial loophole" is present these companies will always have a excuse of convenience so they can do business with who they want.

Frankly, I don't think MSG wants their HD content available on any provider that they don't have a contract with for distribution so they don't want it on NHL Center Ice. I fear it just isn't going to happen.

Wally - MSG and the NBA play nice. Knicks games are on the NBA package in HD.

I think you're working under incorrect assumptions.

Not on Dish Network or via InDemand they're not. It's only on DirecTV that NBA League Pass is included.

Does D* need a contract with MSG to carry MSG HD feeds as part of NBA LP or does the NBA take care of securing the individual feed providers carriage?

I believe that for all of the "league pass," or whatever you want to call them, packages, the package is presented to the satellite/cable providers who then show the games in whatever fashion is easiest for them. It is the central organization, NHL CI or NBA LP, that evidently has some sort of arrangement with the individual teams/RSNs.

Who knows... Fact of the matter is that the Dolan boys still have the world shut out of MSG HD - ONLY FOR ICE HOCKEY

I am planning to call in to the NHL hour on Thursday, and will mention the NBA package (again) to Bettman, asking for a more specific timetable to his 'we're working on it' response

Thanks for volunteering to call in. You may want to try right around 3pm as when I called in and got on a few weeks ago, I called in around 5 minutes into the show and didn't get on until about 50 minutes into the show.

Hopefully Bettman will answer with more than "we're working on it". Try to really press him on what the NHL and MSG are doing to get this resolved. Hell, tell him that there is even a large group on several internet forums who are PO'd and have been discussing this for months and want action NOW.

    Good luck. I'll be listening.

I would love to see MSGHD back, along with Versus and have posted on this and the Versus forum several times, but I along with my brother who also posts here have come to the conclusion that Bettman is more concerned with a piece of lint on my clothing than he is with either Versus or MSGHD.

Don't forget to listen to NHL Live today... just started. We have one volunteer to call in to ask Bettman about NHL Center Ice and any updates about MSG HD feeds. Any other volunteer's? No idea how many calls they may take.

Update - On NHL LIVE, Bettman was asked about MSG HD feeds on CI. His reply was that he knows a lot of fans are asking and also said that in the next few weeks that the MSG HD feed issue on NHL Center Ice should be ironed out. We can only hope this is indeed true.

He was also asked about the 2nd game (10pm ET) of the CBC HNIC feeds on NHL network. He reply was essentially that by 10pm, the NHL wants to summarize the earlier games via the NHL On The Fly program and that the 2nd game of the HNIC feeds is available on NHL Center Ice. We all know this isn't the HD feed from CBC, but rather an SD feed, and its the HD feed that we want.

Another call after that asked about MSG HD feeds (and noted that the NBA LP package carries MSG HD feeds) and about additional Canadian HD feeds. Bettman's reply was that he hopes to get access to more HD Canadian feeds.

Regarding Versus - Bettman was also just asked about Versus and D*. He said that he hopes D* and Comcrap come to an agreement and get Versus back on D* before the playoffs. He said he is disappointed in both parties, but apparently the NHL isn't really doing anything but watching from the sidelines, at least that is what I got from his reply.

Programming note - NHL Live is not on next week (being Thanksgiving), but please continue to call the NHL and MSG about this issue. If available on December 3rd, please consider calling in to the show at 3pm EST to ask for updates on the MSG HD matter (assuming it isn't addressed by then). I'll try to be one of those that calls in (assuming I am in my office at the time).

Thanks to all who have called into the show or called MSG and/or NHL. We need to keep pressing on the issue until we again see MSG HD and MSG+ HD feeds back on NHL CI.

I think we hit him pretty good with television issues today, most of the calls after the Darcy Regier interview were on this subject. I for one have more of a vested interest in the MSG-HD issue as opposed to VS.

That's 2 of us. Right now, MSG HD leads my list over Vs. I'm sure I'll feel differently at playoff time. Maybe we'll have both back on by then.

Bettman's answer sounded like something's about to get done.

Thanks to all of the call-in's. If we get those HD feeds back, you guys are all invited down here to a Texas BBQ :blowout:

    Make that 3 of us.

MSG HD then more Canadian HD feeds are far more important to us hockey fans.

I wonder if the Versus issue isn't solved by playoff time, if Directv can show the CBC playoff feeds because of them having no contract with Versus?

That's an interesting idea. Maybe there's a way around the Vs thing. One thing about Vs that I didn't know until this season is that "exclusive US broadcast time window" deal that they have. Bummer. I saw that enforced yesterday evening. I didn't notice it last year since we had Vs on DTV. I've always known about their "game exclusivity" but not that US window thing.

My priorities are MSG HD, VS, then more Canadian feeds. My Sabres are on VS 4 weeks in a row starting 11/30, 7 x's total this year. And of course we need VS back for the playoffs.

I remember last season hearing assurances that it would be worked out by the start of this season.... so forgive me for being a pessimist.
