The thing that strikes me as odd are the Tuesday and Thursday airings. Seems Friday & Saturday (or even Sunday) would be better.

Per Channel 719. "MLB Network Strike Zone HD. Tuesday & Friday nights. Available with MLB Extra Innings or Sports Pack."

A chunk of Saturday is taken by Fox. Plus Saturday is a mix of day and night games.

All 30 teams play on Tuesday and Friday, and almost all are night games.

The last few seasons Wednesday and Thursday have featured lots of matinee and getaway games, while Thursday is also the biggest travel day of the week.

That's not strictly true, though exceptions are rare (and most of those will be this Tuesday since teams with home openers on Monday typically have Tuesday off). But yes, you get the most nighttime action on Tuesdays and Fridays throughout the year, so if you're going to pick two days to offer this feature, these two days make the most sense.

Is this channel going to be HD only? I am not seeing an SD version, and I have SD duplicates turned on.

As of this morning channel 719 was not in my guide. Is this the same for everyone? Or is it just me? Or do you have to be subscribing to MLBEI to see it? I haven't subscribed yet since they wouldn't give me a discount. Probably will by the weekend.

I didn't see one on my guide.

EDIT: I just checked my SD DVR and there is no strike zone channel listing so it *appears* for now like it's hd only.

Here is a bit more info on the "new" channel. If I read the press release right, the channel is only one Tues/Fri because that's when MLB is airing games so their live "look ins" during games will be on Strikezone instead of MLB.

They told me it was HD only. I don't have an HD receiver so I can't get it. Doesn't sound like a big deal to me since its essentially the same as they do on the MLB Network. I'm not really missing anything since I don't watch the MLB network during that time anyway.

It is available from MLB in SD or at least Dish is providing an SD signal, apparently just not being carried in SD by Direct TV then. Watched last night, enjoyed seeing highlights.

I enjoyed it. It's a little different than the 'old' (DirecTV) SZC, which relied more on showing you something live whenever possible. The new (MLB) SZC relies on showing you what just happened.

I liked the 'double play' screen, which I don't remember on the old version.

I would like to see them get rid of showing you the screen of the score and the batting and pitching stats every time they leave a game. Would rather see live baseball...or even something that just happened. They should make a separate channel for stat heads to cater to the fantasy crowd.

What's with them replacing the host at 10PM?!?!?!? Andrew sits there for the entire six hours every Sunday in the Fall!!!!!!!

We fell asleep...when did the SZC channel sign off last night?

Directv must be low on SD slots and needs to save them for the NEW RSN's that are coming up. Also the NHL round 1 playoffs put's more load the RSN alt slots.

DirecTV has been maxed out on the 101 satellite (where most SD national channels are) for a very long time. In recent years, premium channel additions have been HD only. The SZC is (is a sense) a premium addition, so I'm not entirely surprised it's HD only. Still, given the channel's part-time nature, it wouldn't have taken that much to make room for it (part-time channels share slots with PPV channels).
