Yeah, if you just got more and there's already discounts there, that's why. I'm sure they are fine with giving out discounts but I'm also sure there's a line and if you ask for too much, they will probably eventually flag your account and not want to give you much. People can overdue it and then they don't want to work with you, but they still are by the looks of it. I'm sure if you didn't already have a bunch of credits, they probably would have helped you with the NFL Sunday Ticket but since you already have a lot of discounts, they probably figure they are already helping you out. As for the genie, I'm not sure how that works. There's people who get the free upgrade with the protection plan but there's also people who don't have the protection plan, and they also get a free upgrade. Just all has to do with your account standing I suppose. I've been seeing a lot of people getting the free upgrades lately to the genie.

Yea me too, which is why I am surprised I haven't gotten offered anything at all, especially since it would get me back in to a two year commitment when I have been out of a commitment for a year. I even saw when one person got them to credit the full purchase amount of one so they could be guaranteed a HR44.

I'm not sure that you can believe everything you read either.

Do you know if you had to get to retention for your offer? In looking at everything you were offered, it looks like you have more total discounts than me and were still offered a Free HR44, GenieGo and CCK. I can understand having a cap on total number of discounts per account, but when the "cap" is arbirtrary it just seems strange. Especially since any new hardware requires a 2 year commitment which I am currently out of commitment right now so I could walk tomorrow with no costs.

Question guys: I signed up for D* in September of last year so I got ST for free. I'm going to get it again this year regardless but do you think there's a chance I could get some sort of discount? I'm not expecting what a lot of you are getting but if they could knock off a few bucks that would be cool too. Should I even bother trying since I'm still within my first year of service?

I got to Retrntion the same way everyone has indicated. Had a great rep who was willing to provide offers to a 16 year subscriber of ST.

When I said I wanted HR44 she could not guarantee but offered me the credit if I purchased on my own.

That is the other thing I don't understand. Not once have I been automatically transferred to retention and I have tried numerous times. When I say terminate service or cancel it just says transferring (vs asking the additional question to confirm which sent you to retentions).

Man, this is frustrating. I really want the HR44, but there is no way I am paying $300 for something that I don't own.

You should still call. I would go the route that you want it free with the 1 year commitment. I am still under a commitment until Feb of next year but they think I am eligible in September but are offering me a free HD DVR now. I already have a Genie so I don't need one and I mostly have owned equipment. Point being, I don't see why you couldn't get it free.or worst case scenario I would think you could get half off. You should call. Let us know how it goes and don't forget you need to speak with retention and not the first level CSR.

I called last night a few times and the first time the voice automated system asked the additional questions but the second and 3rd time it just went to the first line CSR as soon as I said cancel.

DTV changed their protection plan this year. If you have their protection plan, you are allowed to upgrade your equipment every two years for free. Requires a two-year contract. That is how I got the Genie for free. It is how my dad and uncle got it also for free.

I agree call them. I have had DTV since Oct 2009. Since then I have paid for ST once. That was in 2010 and it was only $150 (over half off). So call and be nice. Let them know why you are calling. Don't beat around the bush. And you usually can tell how good of an offer you will get by how the CSR answers the phone. If they are extremely friendly, better chance they will hand out the good stuff. I only say this based off of my few calls this year for myself, my dad and uncle. Good luck.

Called today, after saying cancel service got to retention dept. Asked if they had any deals for Sunday ticket, told rep times were tough and Sunday ticket was the main reason for being with directv. He said if you can held a 1 yr commitment I can give you the ticket for free and 15$ credit for 15 months. I asked if he could throw in Redzone channel, he said no problem. I was no longer under contract, but for this deal I took it with a 1 yr commitment.

Woweee did I ever get a sweet deal for this! So I called just now and when asked why I was calling I said cancel but that didn't work. All it did was take me to the main menu. So I called back and said terminate this time. Boom.Straight to retention. Very nice CSR. I explained that I signed up last year and got ST for free and that I would love to get ST again but that I would also like to save a few bucks if I could. She quoted me 37.49 month for 6 months. Not bad considering the $75 in savings. She then said hold on and looked to see if she could find a better deal. When she came back she said I can get ST Max for $40 total! So obviously I jumped all over that. As she was finishing the order she asked if there was anything else she could help with and I figured I'd ask about an upgrade to a Genie. She didn't find anything that would let me get one but did say to try back at the end of August as my account would be closer to it's one year mark. I am one happy customer. Thanks again for the advice to try for a deal even though I haven't been with D* for even a year.

Got free ST + RZC with no commitment. First offered me just free RZC (after saying FIOS had a good bundle deal for me), but I asked for free ST + RZC since that's what they gave me last year with a 1 year contract....no problem.
