Well today I did my usual call and beg retention for Sunday Ticket with a nice CSR in Alabama and this is what I got:

20 off a month for 12 months (basically continues what ended from last year when i got ST)
10 off for 12 off HD charge (which they should keep doing forever, that had just ran out from last year)
3 off a month for 12 months off choice extra
3 off for 3 months of whole home

and 50% off ST max, so 4 payments of 37 for a total of 148. with credits its basically ST MAX for negative 137 (i dont count the 10 for 12 mo for HD, thats an ongoing thing that they give you pretty much no questions asked and shouldnt be charging you for anyway).

All in all for just making one call and not playing roulette, I am happy with the deal, especially when they gave me ST MAX free plus credits plus free genie.

Edit...just called back and talked to a retention rep about genie go..and like others this week I had to talk to first level CSR because the phone system wasnt sending me to retention when i said cancel service and i just flat out asked him to transfer me to retention...everyone is getting one free (at least on this forum) so I asked for that nicely...he said best he could do was give half off and waive the 20 handling charge as well for 50 total cost....talked to him a little while longer and pushed and he said let me talk to my supervisor..came back on phone and said she said to go ahead and give it to me free. All in all not bad...

And its still two months until the season, so I can always call back again later and try and drop the ST max down some or get it free as well.

So I was finally able to get to retention and I made out real well and am extremely happy. Here is a rundown of what I have got the past few days:

$10 off for 6 months of programming
$10 off for 6 months for free DVR
$5 off for 3 months for eBill
Genie and mini Genie for free (only had to pay $49 install since I was adding a new receiver, received the HR44/C41)
    ST Max for free

Then when they installed my two Genie boxes today, I didn't get the new remotes with either of them, I got the older style remotes so the guy ordered me the newer remote and credited the account. (I am only getting one of the Genie remotes, but that is fine with me since the other room will be used less often, mostly by the kids)

So overall I think I did pretty well.

I just called DirecTV to try to cancel NFL Sunday Ticket (ST). The experience reminded me of being in a bazaar in Instanbul. Because I signed up for DirecTV last fall, NFL Sunday ticket was free. I was unaware that it was on automatic renewal.

I ended up getting NFL Sunday Ticket for $29.99/month for 6 months. Plus, $20 off per month for HBO/ShowtIme/Cinemax/Starz, for a net cost of $9.99 for NFL Sunday Ticket. Effectively, $60 as apposed to $225 (the original price). FYI, the tried to offer it for $16.99/month, then they went to $9.99, with the $20 off on the premium channels.

Of course I already has the Genie, so there was not much leeway in what could be offered.

In the found the CSR experience positive, but I also found that trying to cancel something with DirecTV is not what you call an easy process. At least the person I talked to seemed to be in the US,as oppsoed to some call center in Bangalore.

I spoke to Wayne in 'CANCEL' and got NOTHING. Canceled ST and may be pulling the plug on the whole mess.

Did you get asked additional questions by the automated system after you said cancel? If not, you never made it to retention. Dont give up that easy. In past years it would take several calls. This year seems to be easier for most.

Try saying "terminate" instead of "cancel". Worked for me.

I'll bet when you actually get to retention and you tell them you are going to cancel, I'll put money on it that you won't be leaving DTV... lol

Just got off the phone with Directv.

    Here is what I got.

    • NFL ST Max half off = $147 and some change.Paid in one full payment.Which I'm fine with and never was a fan of paying in 4 or more monthly installments.
    • Showtime free for 3 months.
I also canceled Cinemax which was due to expire on the 2 for 1 HBO deal I got 3 months ago but kept HBO.Cinemax I really don't care for anyways out of the premium pay channels I have.I also have about another 4 months left of free Starz & Encore.

On top of that I still have discount from AAA $10 off a month for 20 months.Which I just passed my first year of 2 year contract with Directv. Also have a $5 off a month credit for bundling my AT&T U-Verse internet DSL with Directv.Have 2 refer a friend discounts also, and they me gave another $15 off for a year when I called 3 months ago.

Lol. I use to have to call 2 or 3 times to get a rep that would give me a great deal. Why are you so angry? Just call back and try again.

OK, I just made my yearly call, Free Genie upgrade, of course required a 2 yr commitment, Discounts totaling 34.50 per month for a year, free Sunday Ticket max, oh and free Showtime for 3 months. Was also told to call back after my 20 dollar discount rolls off on July 20 to see about replacing with a further discount. Took 2 calls, the first call offered half price Sunday Ticket.
