    Congratulations!

The steps really do work: Getting a Good Deal on an HR20.

You are now up to step 9.

Yesterday I think I counted 37 people who got the $19 deal (or better). But please do not skip any of the steps.

I think that by tomorrow, the price will may be back up. It will have to be to stem the tidal wave that is coming. Take advantage of the fact that the HD's were delayed!

I am in a similar situation as rizajj was.

I recently upgraded to HD, about a month ago, and went with the two H20's. That was before I really discovered this site. Now I read all the talk about the HD DVR's and I think I made a mistake not getting the HR20.

I will have to do some thinking about whether to make the change.

    Got my HR20!

Installer (contractor, DirectTech) came out on Saturday, 15 minutes past the window (8am to 12pm) with no phone call. Guy brings in the box for the HR20.

Now, technically, the install should cover a 5LNB dish if I don’t have one, A Zinwell mutliswitch if I need it (I don’t) and cabling if necessary (it’s not). So I tell the guy where the dish is and where the wiring runs and he says he won’t be touching any of that. All he’s going to do is swap out the box (which is all I really wanted anyway). So he starts to swap out the box and when he pulls my H20 out, he notices the BBC. He says “What is this here for? You shouldn’t be needing this!”. I immediately tell him that I most definitely do need it in order to watch the MPEG4 HJD channels, or anything off the 103a/b sats. He then says “Oh, you already have HD?”. Of course I have already have HD, moron! If I didn’t , you wouldn’t be doing a simple swap job like you are!

So now I know the guy is not the sharpest tool in the shed, so I ask him about the HR21s. He said they had a training on the ‘new’ HD DVR and that the biggest thing is that it will have some sort of multiswitch built in, or something the size of about the BBC. Thus you wouldn’t need a second line for the DVR in order to watch one show and record another. I’m not sure I believe he knows what he’s talking about, but it was interesting.

Then the kicker: He asks to use MY phone to call up D* to authorize the box. I ask him “What, don’t you have a phone?”. He looked at me blankly. So I give him my home phone to call D*. DVR gets activated, he makes sure the channels come in, and they do. Then he leaves and I’m happy he’s gone. DirecTech phones me up two days later to ask how it went and I ripped’em a new one.

Oh, and on the phone D* said that the installer would take away the H20. The installer said he wouldn’t do that—I’d have to call up D* and have them send a box. What the hell is that about?

Anyway, bottom line—call D* and get your HR20 for $20!!!
