It's an interesting question as I'm reading many different flavors on "are they available" via installers. I've confirmed with both DirectTv and Ironwood that they are bringing one out. Now... we'll see if it actually happens or not on the 17th.

IF they bring one, it will be a SWMline LNB, not a SWM-8.

If they bring a SMWline, you are capped at 8 SWM compatible tuners, per dish. Like IIP stated.

So if you want/need a SWM-8, you'll need to get one from a third party. HSPs don't have those for home installations.

I hear what you're saying, they're just saying something different. :)

If DirecTV is aware of the tuner count, they wouldn't schedule an install with a SWMLine - right?

Well, common sense would say you're right, I'm just not sure that always applies when dealing with CSR's or the install teams. I think I'm going to have to wait and see what happens. I've been through similiar things with Ironwood (the installer) before... sometimes they show up with what they said, sometimes something different and sometimes with nothing at all.

Nor would he really have to.

Taking into consideration that the CSRs have ZERO control of what equipment/line items actually get put on a work order, no I do not believe a SWMLine would be scheduled to be installed.

::sigh:: Again, I'll tell you guys that according to DirectTV as confirmed twice, the work order specifies bringing out a SWM. The CSR actually checked something (don't know what) and then came back on the line saying he had confirmed Ironwood had a SWM available. After I called Ironwood, they have also confirmed they have one and they will be bringing it out.

We'll find out next Friday if this is some kind of mess up or it actually happens.

Interesting comment. Do you mean that anything beyond a generic install is my problem or that there is a better idea?

Just as a follow-up.... they DID show up with a SWM-8, ready to install. However, after looking at the mix of legacy rcvrs along with the newer stuff, they decided they'd rather fish a 2nd line in the wall to my bedroom, which they did.

So... it appears that it is possible to get a SWM out of DirectTV. Don't know what the criteria is for sure, just that I apparently qualified.
