Typical Dish. They tell us to watch for big announcement and then they do NOTHING, as usual.
Read original thread.. where the poster mentions about "this" big announcement:
The first reply was actually accurate - about that 921s are shipping out again..
then i guess - hehe - the rest is somewhat exadurated (or whatever this word spelled))) - where people begin (as always) .. to blow out of proportion ("make an elephant out of the fly" so to speak, etc etc)))) .. or simply imagine and hope for some miracles
I distinctly heard him say the next 811 update was in the summer (June or July, one of the J months). Then, a few minutes later, says the fix for some 811 problem will be out next week? WTF? Can't they get their bullshit straight?
I think the big annoucement was this was a Tech Chat for once where they actually allowed people to ask questions =) (well you know, ask questions that typically woudlnt fly by the screeners) Maybe I will finally take my E* out of vacation mode next month when I move
I use to have a hughes box and it had macrovison built in thhat could be used if the provider wanted why not on the 921 macrovision knows when you run the dvd player through a vcr to record so it could work
Possibly for the same reason she keeps Scott??
Except for (at least) one big item: PROGRAMMING. I missed the chat because I was busy installing my HD DirecTivo. I read about all these great improvements to the 921 - which I had just given to the FedEx man - and I can control my anxiety by remembering that no software fixes are going to fix programming: Do we have Viacom today? Is Turner going away tomorrow? Will DISH ever offer YES, like all the other NYC providers do? It will be fun to watch the next round of Charlie's "we are fighting for your rights to cheap programming" excuses.
Do you honestly want to pay more money for your current programming? Hoenstly.
1- I thought that the 522 could be used as single and dual mode
2- My local retailers aren't carrying the 721 so can I get it somewhere else?
You might want to extend Dish the benefit of the doubt on occasion instead of always blindly ripping the company to shreds. Dish has been known to release new software revisions without adding any new features or bug fixes. Sometimes its merely a quick addition to allow for the next level of programming code coming down the pipeline later. Who knows? Why all the constant negativity from you though? I rarely ever see a single positive mentioning in your Dish posts.
The point I made was that one one hand, he says the next update is mid-June. Then, in the next breath, he says an update is scheduled for next week. Double-talk is double-talk. It makes no difference what they fix in each update.
BTW, they deserve every bit of bashing they get. They rarely desrve praise anymore, unlike the old days. It's a shame. Maybe they'll be able to turn it around. The tech chat showed something. It may be too late, though.
I take this to mean that there are multiple release scheduled. One due out in about two weeks, and others to follow later in the summer.
I work for a company the develops software. Its normal to have features laid out for the next three or so releases. We have a release coming out at the end of the May which contains some features, and other features are scheduled for releases that are due in September and December.
So to have him say that "VCR Timers in the 811" are due to be fixed in two weeks, and "OTA program guides" are due out in the Summer, are not conflicting statements or double talk.
If he would have said it that way, yes.
But, he specifically said "The next release is scheduled for mid-June." Then, he said there was a release due next week. That is the issue I raised, not multiple releases. Why would anybody be annoyed by multiple releases? It was the double-talk that wrankled my nose hairs.

"DON'T FEED THE TROLLS"
I'm not sure I see it the same way I guess. By all means, I'm all for taking companies to task when duly warranted, but there are certain natural tendencies from the usual suspects to shoot first and ask questions later when it comes time to reflecting on and discussing the overall merits and failures of Dish Network both here and elsewhere to a degree where sometimes things are skewed heavily to the negative no matter what Dish does. Take a look at a recent thread on how much Charlie Ergen made last year to see more of what I'm referring to when I mention this if you will.
Don't you find it the least bit curious and disingenuous when the same posters routinely roasting Dish for not adding more HD channels in a quicker fashion are often the same people turning blind eyes to transponder and channel capacity bandwidth constraints? I find it pretty troubling myself that the very moment Dish rolls out some excellent current subscriber upgrade promotions, you have threads asking what the big announcement was on the Tech Chat. Really says it all in a nutshell. People complain to no end when there are no current subscriber promotions and no name based recording system available to them a la Tivo and even when measures are taken to address such concerns, you'd be hard pressed to find much in the way of general customer appreciation/loyalty expressed in return for said decisions. Thats a sad state of affairs to me when credit due is met with thankless digs in pursuit of the always fashionable Dish and Charlie are evil spinjobs.
If you read my particular post, you undoubtadly saw the words "Maybe they'll be able to turn it around. The tech chat showed something."
Some credit may be due now. Time will tell whether real credit will be due, hopefully in the near future.
All I want to know is what was the trivia question Scott answered to win the 921????
Who were the first two hosts of the original Dish Network Tech Chat.
Bill Gates and Steve Jobs?
I noticed when they showed the RecordPlus feature of the 522 it was tuned to 9857 (CD 8) in the EPG, and it had a musical background, is that something that's actually in the 522 or is it possibly something they're working on to enhance the visual look of their music channels?
