I'm not saying the HR34 is too slow to use but if you have a choice who would rather have an HR34 or an HR44? The speed difference is very noticeably to me and simultaneous IR/RF is icing on the cake!

If you're annoyed by the response of previous DVRs from DirecTV its likely the HR44 make you forget. :joy: If the remote response of previous DVRs doesn't get under you skin then the speed is not that big of a deal.

No need to 'pursue' the difference. I have an HR44 and happy with the speed/response. That's enough for me.

Maybe you should read my posts again. Or better yet just don't reply to my posts. I think we all get it - You are happy with the speed of the HR34. Good for you.

There really isn't a question about the 44 processor speed, so if the option/choice is 34 verses 44, the 44 is the winner.
"Maybe the point is" if you have a 34 now it might not be worth dumping it for a 44.

I agree 100%! Luckily for me I didn't jump on the 34 early and get the benefit of the HR44 from day one.

We both know with the exception of rebooting the HR44 is a second or less faster than the HR34 with speed and response. And yes I'm happy with the speed and response of my HR34 because I don't spend a lot of time channel surfing and menu hopping. Again Mike they're both equal where it really counts. They both provide the same audio/video quality, both have the same recording capability, both have a 1TB hard drive, and both have 5 turners.

I think it's not speed that's the issue I think it response. I have seen some units have slower response and I feel its more to do with the remote itself than the unit.

If you had this #$%@#$@# HR21 I'm using, then you might not think it's the remote.

I can see the power light respond and then need a calender to measure it's reaction. !rolling

Hmm... I think we're stuck in a loop. See previous posts and/or simply just don't respond.

I think you're right when it comes to my HR24s and my neighbor's HR34. Doing searches etc the speed is 'ok' but it doesn't feel right because there is a delay with each button push....

I know the feeling! My HR22s where so bad it just wasn't worth using them! Those suckers are slow.

The HR34 isn't in that class and is much easier to use than those but just doesn't have the snappy feeling of the HR44.

This is why the HR44 should have had 8 tuners.

    there's also a HR24-100 here that's much slower than my HR24-500s.
Running a diagnostic test returns an unformatted memory error. I have no clue if this the cause, but I'll blame it for now

It has to be done specifically by those who post most about the "issue". :hurah:

The only one stuck in a loop is you with your infatuation to speed and response. Everyone has admitted that the HR44 has a "slightly" faster processor than the HR34. When rebooting the HR44 is "significantly" faster than the HR34. But rebooting isn't a daily function. As for speed and response to remote commands the HR44 is a second or fraction of a second faster than the HR34. Like it or not that's a "slight" difference Mike. Yes, the HR44 has some added features. But they only matter if they are necessary to the user. That aside, in all other areas the HR34 and HR44 perform equally. I don't mind people giving praise but your comparison of the HR34 to the HR44 as if it were inferior in every way is absurd.

Yep - and I don't doubt those numbers.... But what the timings can't show is how much of an improvement just the basic response to the remote is.

Man, I feel your pain on the HR22! Those things need to be shot! I'm not suggesting that anyone can't be happy with the HR34... Just that the HR44 is faster... And I can run IR/RF at the same time!
