Thanks for the update.
Interesting they have room for BETHD but not one of the more popular channels, say like Travel or ESPNU or or.
Yeah yeah, I know I know.
Me love HD
BETHD was one of the channels that was advertised by DirecTV even before the D10 launch. It launched two months ago, with MPEG4 native distribution. Just like Comedy Central HD earlier this year, BETHD was a channel DirecTV had already contracted to carry.
I welcome BETHD, even for upconverted SD material.
Reminder: Just because you don't watch/want a channel, that doesn't mean others don't watch/want a channel.
This thread will close on June 30, 2009 and a new one will be opened.
Please use the next week or so to collect your thoughts.
Several of you have contacted me about having posts at the top of the new thread. If you post what you want here, and make it clear that it's for the new thread and send me a PM about it, I'll copy it over when the time comes.
I sincerely hope (and fully expect) that DIRECTV already "determined channel offerings" for D12 long ago. I also expect most "carriage agreements" are already in place for D12. If this is not the case, we're all in for another long wait.
OK where is everyone now that said no more HD channels in 2009 until the new sat is up & running.
Typing up their rants about a "waste of space" channel and how it should be Travel channel, ESPNU, or AMC.
You'll remember that DIRECTV had agreements and advertised a number of NBCU channels that have yet to see the light of day. After the MTV fiasco, I'm sure they're being a little more judicious; perhaps even so far as to take a "wait and see" approach.
You must be dizzy from all of the spinning.
So from this can we infer that the other HBOs and Cinemax channels are coming soon, since they were advertised so long ago?
No contract situation there though....was there ?
They also launched long ago, so there's pretty much zero chance of seeing those channels at least until D12 launches.
Unless DirecTV lied in the press release, the contract was in place.
I think this slightly ups the chances for getting ESPNUHD in september.
I understand that's when college football season starts, but I don't think that's going to be the deciding factor. The press release said it'll launch by the end of 1Q10, so it's highly likely that they're going to wait for D12. But the SD channel is still coming to the Choice package on July 1st.
I don't watch BET but I'm certainly not upset over this. More HD is more HD and it's at least A popular national network even if it ain't aimed at someone like me.
No details but at the conference call today they mentioned that they will have 200 HD channel capacity coming with the new sat in 1st half of 2010. So that is confirmation that they aren't looking at adding a whole lot until beginning of next year.
What day does D12 launch on?
