No one is calling anyone anything...although you seem obsessed with attempting to accomplish that goal. It is neither appropriate nor relevant to this thread.
    AMEN Lefty. Well said.

"Of those 23, they need at least 9 during the NFL season on Sundays. Those 9 are also used for special events throughout the year. To play it safe, let's call that 9 more like 9-11. That's leaves about a dozen before out of bandwidth.

so its really about 12, not 23.

Agreed. Companies this profitable don't do much fumbling in the dark.

I've had, and still have, some gripes with the company (unfullfilled press releases, etc), but I don't think it is a matter of incompetence. Rather, I think it's a matter of company priorities. They are doing what they always do .... and that is, making money, and making decisions that they think will make them more money.

By "more people", do you mean DirecTV themselves?

OK, I agree! I'll stay on topic. Where's Travel Channel HD? Where's ESPNU HD? Where's WGN HD? ETC....

If the "B" word is not the bottleneck, why don't we have these channels?

As has always been stated, the 23 includes at least 9 needed for the NFL, based on last year's allocation. To be extra careful, been calling it more like 11. That leaves a dozen.

Of those dozen, they still might light up the 3 RSN's that they missed last summer. So it's maybe more like about 9.

Considering that there are only 140 slots between D10 and D11. 9 of 140 is 6%.

They might be extra special careful how they use that last 6% until D12 is alive and well. I certainly would be cautious.

All of this is guesswork based on generally available information and careful daily analysis over the past 18 months ...

    Therein lies the mystery....;)

    ...and the speculation....

If a car has a full tank of gas and car keys in place, why does it not drive? :D

In other words...who the heck knows for sure...

But its alot more worthwhile and fun to forecast what we'll see than talking about bandwidth all day long. :welcome:

That's what the thread is really about anyway.

By the way - I like your added HD channel suggestions. :)

Isn't assumption what this thread is all about? We don't know WHAT they're going to release, and we don't know when, or why, or how. As already stated by others, we know there are 14 available "slots", and we like to round that down to a rough "dozen" to be safe. That is not an assumption. I have speculated that the slot count is conservative already for reasons already thrashed out in the previous thread. What we say here isn't going to change anything. We're just here for the fun of it. It's like gambling. It's not logical. People still do it for entertainment.

No one has forgotten that. It's already accounted for in the reservation of 9 out of the 23 available "slots". And as previously stated, locals don't typically go on conus transponders. There's a pool of bandwidth for LIL, and a pool for nationals.

I don't think I've ever had a commitment. I joined before that nonsense started. I never said I was looking to leave, I just disagree with some of what is being stated as fact as to WHY they haven't rolled out more HD than they have.
I personally believe they will continue to do what they think will be most profitible for them and their shareholders. Some of their customers may be happy with that, and some may not.

I don't think disagreement equals "flame wars". And I don't believe the thread is irrelevant to DirecTV because of the content of the thread. It's irrelevant to DirecTV because the desires of a small group of satellite "enthusiasts" is probably not as indicative of the market than the data they already have available to them. There are people here who will brown nose DirecTV because they believe it may benefit them, and there are people here who complain because they like to complain. Neither of those extremes are good examples of the market that DirecTV can make use of. But it does provide for interesting discussion. :D

...and ESPN may be caving anyway, offering an ESPNU for ESPN Classic swap recently.

Huge fight coming, indeed. The SEC football addition will drive this.

So even though the facts state that there are open slots, and you contend that these facts don't exist, you have no problem accepting Sixto's guessing as to why there are open slots? Make up your mind, please.

I'll put this to rest immediately: Sixto is definitely NOT a liar.

His data might be incomplete (like how resources are "planned" to be used rather than currently used.)

His analysis might be incomplete. (Tho I find that hard to believe...) :)

Or something else might be escaping him (and us.)

    But he ain't no liar.

    Cheers,
    Tom

Everyone wants info yesterday about when new channels are coming or when new information about upcoming channel launches, satellite launches etc.

But then whe that information is made available via Press Releases, or other sources ie Sixto or anyone else all people do is whine or question what is released.

I mean everyone wants Directv to tell us what they are doing minute by minute with this, but when they told us their plans and it didn't work out that way or the way people would like to have seen them turn out, they cried because they lied and provided false information, but then in the next breath they want them to tell them what their future plans are and if they don't they are running a bad business.
