Fantastic news for Roanoke-Lynchburg, right after Dish just brought those up. I was dreading we'd have to wait until the next sat goes up.

I wonder if they'll include any subchannels (mainly 7.2 - My19). Then I'd feel comfortable throwing out my OTA.

Unfortunately the last I read from an engineer at WDBJ dish had no interest in carrying 7.2, I'm pretty sure Direct will follow this too. There isn't enough room for the subs and DTV will want to push PBS to all markets before the sub channels.

Good news for Huntsville. Finally, I can record House in HD without it breaking up.

Excellent! You know what did it, right? My recent installation of 2 AM-21s and the wiring to the antenna!

It would be in the lower peninsula of Michigan, about 94 miles west of Detroit. :)

(But then you already knew that)

OTA works well for me as well, but my parents will really benefit from this as they will be able to drop cable and won't have to switch back and forth.

Plus, MPEG-4 takes up a lot less space on the DVR than OTA. I will still watch live sporting events OTA as I expect the PQ will be slightly better.

I'm with you. I'm dying to get locals here!

IIRC, we were among the last with SD locals, so I'm not optimistic that it'll be soon. I almost wonder if the local stations here aren't particularly cooperative when it comes to negotiating contracts, etc, since we were so late in the SD rollout and now we're getting late into the ballgame on the HD rollout.

Either way, here's hoping that the new satellite brings with it HD lovliness. I only get PBS HD OTA about 75% of the time, and I don't REALLY want to put up a new antenna to get it more reliablly, so I live with it and hope when I want to watch something that I'll have a clear signal!

OOPS! Directv's website now indicates that Lexington KY and Jackson MS won't happen until October. Guess that's a bit later than "...later this summer..." but still better than sometime next year.

Well, I use to look for my local market of Salisbury MD, but to tell the truth, I don't want it now. During tonight's major thunder boomers, the only signal I could get was OTA. Now that I have a decent OTA rig, why pay for a local package?

BTW, What does a local package cost?

Fantastic. I'm moving to Christiansburg, VA this year. Now I won't have to worry so much about an antenna.
