They could, but the HD Extra pack is currently used for channels that have no SD equivalent. It might cause customer confusion if it also included some channels that did have an SD version already on DirecTV.

Do you ever watch anything besides Travel Channel? D* has 264 others you could be watching, half of them are in HD. Or is the channel change button on your remote broken?

With Scripps in control, perhaps things will change.

Yes, things will change. Travel Channel HD will most likely start using non-linear stretching like the rest of Scripps' channels. :nono:

The HD picture quality on Brighthouse is absolute crap. Don't ever turn to them for anything related to HD.

I don't put much faith in that since it's the CEO of Epix saying that, not Dish. What is would you expect him to say, he's got to paint a good picture of talks.

Bingo. Remember "negotiations" was the big excuse in the past. Just because D* has the bandwidth doesn't mean we will be getting all the HD we are hoping for. In fact, you might see a sudden surge in PPV.

I'm not going to say you're wrong, because cable can vary from market to market and I've never seen the HD PQ in Central Florida. But the big boys usually do things the same in each market, so there is little variation.

There are people who say that the U-verse HD PQ is not crap, too. So I've learned not to trust any random forum poster's idea of good PQ.

Since "Q4 2009" is coming to a close, perhaps we should start a new thread soon for "Q1 2010" so we can guess which channels will come with DirecTV-12 when it comes on line, eh? :D

When they shut off Versus HD did they replace it with a ppv or is it unused bandwidth?

    Versus HD was D10/TP12/1030.

Cinema HD 159 took the slot. It's been expected that it's a placeholder for when / if Versus returns.

    Transponder maps here.

As D12 isn't planned to come online until Q2 2010, talking about what it might bring in Q1 2010 is nonsense. What opens the door in Q1 is the temporary absence of need for NFL ST channels.

If a new satellite isn't aloft by the time any such thread is opened, the situation won't change appreciably during the life of the thread.

I thought it was to be launched 12/29/09 ... and the window was from 60-120 days for it to be operational .... that would leave plenty of opportunity for Q1 2010 .... right?

An application filed with the FCC says that D12 will go live no later than May 5th, 2010. Looking at the rest of the time line included in the filing, it couldn't come online a whole lot earlier.
