ExStreamHD, like a lot of the other exhibits, are trying to get into the whole home server market. This is over ethernet (GigE) and they can support 4 HD streams at once. Their trick play is not like DirecTV’s or TiVo’s. The demo I saw was MPEG-2 but I ask if they can do MPEG-4 and they said sure, but I couldn’t get them to show me.

This is the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s robot they had on display. He can talk to you and answer questions. His voice was pretty cute. Hdtvfan0001 got a video of it.

HR24! I have more information on this, but I want to discuss it further with hdtvfan0001. We’re going to write up something for DBSTalk.com about this setup in this exhibit.

This is a client, that can be use with existing TVs, but the guts of which will be put into Panasonic, Samsung, and LG TVs. More to follow on this, no designation on it (it is NOT a H24).

TiVo is in the house! However, their booth was or meeting room was more about business deals than hardware discussions of showing off anything. I got my kids a couple of plushies and they gave me a T-Shirt.

Ok, this big thing at this event is 3D HD TV! And DirecTV is in the thick of it, as you can see. DirecTV will be launching a 3D channel in June of this year. We were unable to get any detailed information on the 3D stuff from the DirecTV reps. Though DirecTV was at Panasonic and Samsung’s exhibits. As you might imagine, the 3D could not be captured in a photo, these photos only highlight DirecTV’s existence within the realm. Panasonic and Samsungs implementations are different. Samsung wouldn’t allow me to photograph anything in the booths. Both implementations required the use of glasses. In both implementations DirecTV was providing the source material. Panasonic has two implementations themselves. The Samsung presentation I witnessed was pretty kewl to watch a sporting event, it put perspective into the view, everything popped. The one Panasonic presentation I witnessed had images that literally looked liked they popped off the screen into midair. Of the two I liked Samsungs implementation, though I suspect the Panasonic one has its place, just not my cut of tea. Neither vendor would comment on the price of these TV sets, but they will be available “SOON!” that was the best I could get out of them, and BTW, you would need a TV in order to be able to view these too, neither commented on a filter to place on top of current sets. It looks kewl, but I do wonder if it will take off, likely not so much. Oh, I also couldn’t get a price on the glasses either (another expense.)

Great that they have the bandwidth to do live 3D now that Sunday Ticket is over ;) A show attendee in chat tonight said he was told the glasses would run about $150 each.... I do not think 3D will ever be more than a niche. I know Im sure not shelling out for a new TV and $150 a pair for glasses...besides, I wear a prescription glasses now, so Id look pretty stupid wearing two pair at once to watch tv ;)

If you watch the video on the link above, you will hear the salesman say there is No way you can tell if you are watching the DVR or another tv....When if fact, there is....And that demo was video directly from the dvr, not via MRV, as MRV does not show up a free drive space percentage on the LIST screen.
