I had Directv in my name about 2 yrs ago...great service, never had a problem, and always paid on time. I wanted to try out an OTA antenna with a Tivo Roamio because of the prices slowly increasing.
Well, the reception with the antenna is spotty at best, not a ton of content, and in all honesty I'm just not a local channel watcher...I pretty much watch all the other channels (food network, diy, discovery, etc)
Anyways, I know I called and got a few $10 discounts during the time I had directv...If i call up and want to order again would they give me any discounts? Or will I just get the same deal as all new customers? They used to send me all kinds of offers in the mail but stopped bothering me about a year ago.
There website has the Choice Xtra package with 1 TV for around $70 i think. Trying to save as much as I can.

Prime candidate for streaming if you have 5 mbps internet. Cheaper options out there like Playstation Vue streaming with cloud DVR service. The Vue works well includes HD, package prices vary from $60's with HBO and Showtime to $30 a month no contract. Up to 5 devices with Vue (PlayStation isn't needed) they've Expanded to Android TVs, PC and Mac. Also compatible with FireTv and Roku devices. (Don't use the sticks however)
Even Directv has a streaming service coming later this month. Don't think it will be as good as Vue without cloud DVR service but its being advertised now at $35 month for 100 Hd channels.

I am not sure if being away for 2 years classifies you as a new customer.
The only way to find out is to call them. Just talk and be ready to tell them "Thanks , but I think I will wait" and then see what they say. Sometimes the deals are better than others.
Good luck.
If you're only hooking up one TV, I would think there are multiple streaming options that would cover your channels and be cheaper as camo pointed out. And there are others. Probably an internet search for 'tv streaming services' would give you a good list. Like this? http://www.tomsguide.com/us/best-streaming-video-services,review-2625.html
I'd stream if my current situation with Directv every changes. I wouldn't consider a regular pay tv provider anymore with Playstation Vue and others like it. Only going to saturate the market with more options over time. Hopefully they don't totally gut net neutrality so this stuff can get on solid footing.
Meh, I tried to stream with SLING. It was terrible (slow, pixelated, dropped out) even though I had 50 Mbps Internet, and it had no DVR. I pretty much record any/all shows and watch them later. I actually called and ordered Directv and got installed the day before Thanksgiving. Loving it, so many channels I don't even know what do with it all.
Probably going to stick with D* for the forseeable future...I've tried to switch providers a few times, once to Charter (huge mistake), once to SLING (sucked), and most recently I had an Antenna with a TiVo (DVR worked well, but couldn't pick anything up with the antenna)
I've had directv for close to 5 years (off and on) and its always worked very well for me, equipment has been (mostly) very good, installers did a good job, etc etc etc. Also been very surprised at the weather aspect, I think I can recall maybe 2 or 3 times in the past 3 years at my current location that rain or snow has actually knocked out my signal, which is very brief.
Hopefully it doesn't change too much with the ATT buyout. I've already noticed with this new install that my Genie and Genie Minis don't work as good as before, having some minor issues actually.
