After finding out that of those 102 HD channels from FIOS, 40 of them are premiums, doesn't make that lineup all that impressive anymore.

And just as truthful, cable has thousands of HD choices....:D

The two part-timers DirecTV has working after school, don't have time to worry about nationals. They have midterms coming up.

If that's how it works, knock out everything EXCEPT movie channels and NFL Network for me.

I think "not everyone's interested in all" of any kind of channel.

Sure - 10 new channels....you mean they aren't sending it your way? :D

    Wonder why not?
...and DirecTv also has thousands of HD choices...using the same rubberized yardstick.

The Troll Patrol has conquered yet again. :)

You're a troll on patrol? That much is obvious, but DirecTV does not have thousands of HD choices. Both cable and DirecTV play sleazy games with the numbers, and at this point, neither can claim the higher ground.

    Very unproductive thread.

There's obviously more to the HBO/Cinemax story then any of us know, since it was announced as coming. They're obviously waiting on something, probably not contractual, but maybe logistically there's some infrastructure holding things up. I personally have no problem waiting a little longer, there's lots of other HD to watch. Without a strike this season, there's lots to watch.

ESPN is probably playing hardball with ESPNU, typical negotiation, and we'll get it eventually.

Have no idea if Comcast will be tough with Golf/Versus/E!/Style/G4. The channels are not available until 12/8/2008.

And there's a few other stray channels that I don't much care about.

So I guess the world will come to an end because we're missing a few HBO's and ESPNU. :)

Thankfully D11 provided massive movies, the legacy 9, and every game of MLB EI and NFL Sunday Ticket to this household in beautiful MPEG4 HD this year. Couldn't be happier.

I'm not trying to bait anyone. I'm simply expressing an opinion on an area where I think DirecTV lacks, and I get attacked. It seems only praise of DirecTV is allowed here.

    I wouldn't say "I couldn't be happier," but I am very happy.

I am really enjoying the MPEG4 channels and MPEG4 Sunday Ticket. We've bought a couple of HD PPVs and the quality is really outstanding.

I'm looking forward to more, of course, but things are pretty darn good right now.:)

That's true, but what I was referring to is the channels that come with the plus package regarding conus HD channels. Not channels that you have to sub to to receive.

I agree, it's time to put this thread to death. We've all made our points and things are getting quite redundant.

So when FIOS includes east and west coast feeds, it's redundant. But when DirecTV does it, and adds in a ton of PPV channes that just show the same thing over and over on a loop, it's "137 beautiful (and much envied) glorious HD channels".

13 is not a ton and it's probably 9 when you account for Cincinnati, Florida, and Ohio 24x7 RSN's, and the Versus/Golf split.

And some of the others may go to the Comcast channels, time will tell.

If those would have been stated as the primary purposes of D11 in DirecTV's press release, we wouldn't have a thread like this going today. The reason we DO have this thread, and the multitudes of responses, is because to date, D11 has delivered precious little "National HD". I won't join the guy who suggested that it would have been fine if it blew up on the launch pad, because I'm glad for locals and RSNs and MPEG2-4 conversions. All I wanted/hoped for was for D11's National HD additions to live up to the corporate hype in the press release. It hasn't. Not even close.

I thought there was over 30. I realize some of them are temporarily turned off during Sunday Ticket and some other special events, but they are still counted (at least by DirecTV and its fans) towards the 130+ number that gets batted around.

EDIT: yes, according to your HD recap linked in your sig (nice work, btw), there are 33 PPV included in the count of 129 full time HD channels. There are also 8 DNS feeds (east/west coast feeds of the major four networks) included, which most people wouldn't be eligible for (most would likely get their four locals, though many may also get a couple extra locals if available in their area). Where hdtvfan is getting 137... I'm not sure. Maybe counting some part time sports subsriptions? I don't know. But the point remains that a "bunch" of the 137 he's counting are PPV. And even some E/W feeds that he wants to discount when looking at competitor's numbers.

I wish I could find the thread but PR announcements aside, I am pretty sure that it was common knowledge here even before DIRECTV10 launched that DIRECTV11 was going to be primarily locals.

I say this with the utmost respect for the PR people at DIRECTV, who have been extremely hospitable to me, but press releases are not always intended to be completely forthcoming and honest. This is no more or less true at DIRECTV than it is in any other company.
