Tips for when you re up

I've been a customer since May 2011 and love DTV.

What's the best time to call in to re up. I don't plan on getting new equipment, I think it gives me leverage if I'm not in a contract.

Should I call within a week? A month? 6 months?

Ideally, I'd like to get free hd for life, free Sunday Ticket, Free Showtime/HBO for a year, and the new customer base price ($40 to $50 a month)

To get the above, would I need to agree to 2 more years?

I've had 10 referrals. Do they take that into account and give me something more because I've made them a ton of money?

Thanks in advance! I'm new here.

I just called in and was extremely nice.

Said "I love the service first of all." I said "I heard customers get discounts for auto pay/paperless billing and curious if I'm eligible?"

CSR checked and said "No, you're not eligible but I can give you $5 off for 6 months."

I said "Awesome, thank you so much!"

...I've asked for discounts before and gotten them and I haven't had a bill since September 2011. Why wouldn't they say "You haven't had a bill in forever, so, no."????...

$5 off what? I thought you haven't had a bill since September?

$5 off for 6 months.

I still get charged monthly, I just have enough credits and referrals so I have a surplus. The credits people can get are still there for me. Most don't have 10 referrals and it seems most reps don't know of my referrals until they start digging.

$265 in fact. I didn't get Sunday Ticket Max it would be $365 in the positive. I could potentially only pay 4 or 5 months total in 2 years.

I guess because I've seen people do it
SO your saying if you seen others jumping off a bridge into shark infested waters that you would get right up and jump in?

That's the problem with today's world.... Almost everyone feels they are entitled to something just because the other has it and they want it for free!

IMO, if i where lucky enough to not have a bill since Sept 2011 and credits remaining to keep not haveing a bill till atleast Sept 2012 i would be pretty damn happy with that..

I guess because I've seen people do it, so why not ask? I bet I've gotten over $400 in free programming/credits not including referrals. That's a few months of service.
And I can't even get the $10 HD credit back on my account that I was told I was entitled to as a customer. Been with them 14 years, auto pay, never *****ed or whined about getting or not getting a discount or freebies, paid for all my equipment, protection plan, HD extra package . . .

Either someone is full of it, or Directv doesn't know what they are doing. Tough call to figure that one out.

Most of that $400 is getting Sunday Ticket max for $99. The rest is just discounts from time to time.

If you're not in the rententions department, you're in the wrong place.

Oh, I'm ecstatic about not having a bill. But those discounts are because I convinced a ton of people to get dtv over many other options. That time quite a bit of work and time to get those referrals.

That's all fine and dandy how you got it... my point is you are new customer, you got your new customer rates. Directv don't owe you or anybody else anything except for the service which was paid for and in your or everyone else that did the referrals the small credit promised.

That bring me back to my original statement... There are more and more these days that want something for nothing. Calling in to get whatever "freebies" they can just because someone else did. Maybe if you call back and be nice they will send someone out that can push the remote buttons for you:lol:

I have been with Directv since 1994 had a couple of upgrades over the years. HD upgrade 4 years ago. I have called in 3 times asking for a break on my my bill i only have 1 HD dvr and 1 standard dvr. Directv has always came through for me when i needed them to but i don't beat them up with asking for credits and such or threaten to leave every year or so. They provide me with a service and i provide them with a long time customer that always pays for his service on time every month. I can honestly say Directv is the best service i have bar none !

Any other tips from anyone?

Also, do you still have to pay a monthly charge for each receiver after 2 years is up? At that point I wouldn't be in a new contract until I asked for new equipment. It would be nice not to be locked in. I do see myself every leaving but it's nice to know there isn't a buy out if I don't get new equipment.

I switched to FiOS last October.

I got several offers from DirecTV right after that. Yesterday I got another letter from DirecTV with all sorts of goodies, including three months free for premium channels and free Sunday Ticket with the Choice package.

I have no interest in Sunday Ticket (there's still no NFL team in LA) and have another 15 months to go on my FiOS contract, so I don't expect to change back anytime soon.

I think it's a little of both. I, like you am a fairly long time customer (8 years), and in most cases have never gotten half of what some of the posters on here claim they get.

I think there's more people on here working for DTV than they care to admit to.

I also have the premier package with MLB EI and a few other extras, I have never threatened to cancel, in fact I am probably being too nice when I call.

I have been advised by posters on here to actually lie to DTV when I had certain issues with HD DVR's, but it's just not in my nature to do so.

All in all, I would have to say that while the CSR's were very nice, I was usually not satisfied with their conclusions.

I also get everything in writing, as a few years back, a CSR actually lied to me and it was my word against his. So now, any thing they offer is in writing or they can keep it.
