Why would this matter to you? According to your profile, you have Dish...
Just pouring salt on our HD wounds
There's a new thread today annoucing a deal signed by DirecTV with UTV, which will bring us the UTV Movie Channel. According to the press release, UTV has a library of Hindi films such as Jodhaa Abkar, Race, Aamir, Jannat, Life in a Metro and Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal.
Now I know what the DirecTV negotiating department has been so busy with over these past few months. One can only imagine the complexity of such negotiations. Lots of midnight oil, no doubt.
With this major milestone finally accomplished, hopefully they can turn their sights and negotiating resources toward Travel HD, ESPN-U HD, and the others that a few have been clamoring for.
This is Great News as I just Love to watch Hindu Movies. Boy or Boy I can't wait. DIRECTV now I CAN FORGIVE YOU for taking so long to negotiate the Travel Channel Deal!!!
Bring On Those Hindu Movies!!!
Perhaps then we should ask the Dish folks how the NFL Ticket is doing over there...???
Or maybe the 20+ cities without HD LIL channels on Dish that DirecTV has...???
One specific HD channel does not a service make (or break)...
So damn excited.:nono2:
This is great news!!! I've been waiting a LONG time to watch a channel dedicated to making Dunkin' Donuts.
!rolling !rolling !rolling
I'm pretty sure the HD Donut Channel used to be one of the Voom channels....
Must be negotiations because I'm receiving The Travel Channel and many others in downrezzed MPEG2 SD.:sure:
That's STRANGE because I AM RECEIVING THE TRAVEL CHANNEL in HD also but it looks like downrezzed MPEG-2 SD VIDEO!!!
Correct that's what I meant.
The last two SD channels I most often watch are Travel Channel and BBC America. I thought both of these were coming in 2008 (I don't think BBC America even has an HD channel out there yet--does Travel?)
Does anyone know what the status of these channels are with both HD and D* HD?
Travel HD came online in January 2008. It is conspicuously not available on DIRECTV.
BBCA HD appears to be the poster child for HD vaporware.
Last I read, BBC America was looking at 2010 for HD changeover, of course now economic conditions could delay that.
2010? Wonderful. Now that they have the exculsive rights to Torchwood I will be great to now only get it in SD...
Where did you read that? The last email I had from them (10/08) stated this:
"We appreciate your interest in seeing BBC America in High Definition. Please know that plans to launch the channel are in the works. However, at this time an exact launch date is not available. We appreciate your patience and are
working tirelessly to bring you this service in the near future.
We thank you again for your interest and continued support.
Hopefully, "the near future" will be sooner than 2010.
Stock Answer.. I will search for the original article I read about this. There was plenty of discussion about 2008 but even the BBC said that wasn't going to happen, also numerous rumours that I traced back to someone posting an uninfromaed assumption that it would happen in February '09 (guess why)... but the BBC's internal target is apparently to have all programming world wide in HD by 2010.. might have something to do with a soccer match  . If I can track the article I will post a link.
I'm wondering why this thread hasn't been merged with the Official More HD in 2009 Thread....
BBC America does not have a HD feed yet. The next Discovery channel to be HD will the Ophrah channel replacing Discovery Health.
Oh Geez. Oprah in SD is bad enough. Perhaps if I don't put this channel in "my favorites" my wife will never know it is there.
