Found that out (Tuesday night) when scanning my "to be" recorded events for the evening. Sure wish E* would give some advance warning.

Why all the moves that we have seen recently? Can one assume that there are new channels coming?

DISH Network is working to streamline services by grouping channels more effectively.

I noticed the move yesterday. Used to love Travel Channel. Now it seems to be endless eppsodes of Man vs. Food. I rarely watch it anymore. Too bad.

Hopefully then DISH will be able to offer better selection and more competitive pricing, e.g. Travel Channel as part of a group of information channels.

One would hope that freeing up channels in the low 200's that BBC World, CNN International, CSAPN3 and Al Jazeera will be candidates fro the vacated spaces.

Someone at the other forum suggested it would be the additional weather channel announced last century. :)

There is still room for that at 213.

Moving 215 to 196 isn't bad. Travel isn't really a "news/weather" channel and fits in where it went.

This is what happens when your network is now owned by the folks who own the Food Network. The Travel Channel has taken a Food Networkesque personality.

Changing channel numbers doesn't free up any space.
Having said that, I'm waiting for Dish or someone to carry these channels as well.
Actually, I already receive Al Jazeera English, it's on Galaxy 19, 97W as a non-scrambled digital signal.

It frees up numbering space ... although 215 has now been taken by Current so the thought of using that for something else is now moot.

It is a lot easier to add a news channel when there is an appropriate free number in the news channel range. The same goes for the other genre ranges. Adding a news channel outside the news range (or other genre channels away from the channels like it) make the channel harder to find and, in a way, handicap the channel's success.

With Current taking over 215 there remains two open channels in the "news/weather" range ... 201 (which between 200 CNN and 201 HLN would be a great place for CNN International) and 213 (which was set aside for the local weather channels that never appeared).
