Has something changed then? I ask because this 2008 MPEG-4 announcement from HBO ends with the following:

"HBO/MAX MPEG-2 digital feeds will continue to be available:

The MPEG-4 HD feeds are incremental to HBO’s MPEG-2 offering. HBO currently plans to continue to provide the MPEG-2 HD feeds of HBO (East and West) and Cinemax (East and West), and we also plan to continue to provide all 26 SD feeds in MPEG-2."

It makes sense to me that HBO (and most programming providers) would continue to provide MPEG-2 for all the cable systems that are still MPEG-2.

AT&T U-Verse is a cheap version of FIOS. They run fiber to the node, similar to cable companies, then provide the service to your home using existing copper service lines. U-Verse has lower quality HD, you can only have 1 DVR, and a maximum of 3 HD streams (or less) per home. The service is truly limited only by the available bandwidth to your home, and can be prone to problems depending on the line distance between your house and the node. It is an ideal service for homes with TWO or less HD Tvs, or FOUR or less SD TVs, due to the active stream limits.

I have had U-Verse, the DVR is pretty good, its fast and responsive, but lacks some basic features, like recording prioritization. They do offer Whole Home DVR which is nice, but the things that made me switch were the poor HD PQ, and the fact I could only watch two HD channels IN THE WHOLE HOUSE (in my area, we only got 2 HD streams).

It was a big whoop to do about the remuxing a time ago but nobody cared after a while, well except for a few diehards.http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?p=11500547#post11500547

It like another 10 page argument on Dslreports as well.
