Can anyone who has 118W and who does not subscribe to TV JAPAN CH. 640 tell me if the "Free TV Japan" newscasts throughout the day are viewable to everyone like they are on 61.5? Thanks! :)

It's the same feed and should be under same restrictions.

Thanks P Smith, but after being an E* subscriber for a little more than 10 years, I know that the way things "should be" often doesn't apply at E*! I'd still like to hear from someone who can actually SEE "Free TV Japan"

I have the 118 satellite, and do not subscribe to TV-Japan. "Free TV Japan" can be seen perfectly when it is on, transponder 28.

Thank you all! I'm trying to help a neighbor and you all have answered a question that I'm sure no one (I could contact) at E* would have any knowledge of. Thanks again!!

    Carl92,

I am actually seeing 118 that is why I answered "yes", I also see 61.5 on a separate receiver and had the 148 satellite from FL on a third receiver when it was still around, I am the one that complained to dish when the TVJapan @ 118 feed was hidden from non subs in the EPG a few months ago, then after a few weeks and some complaints from myself and others it was restored to showing in the EPG @ 118 again after tvjapan got involved, since then dish has moved it from channel 675 to 640 @ 118 to match the channel number @ 61.5, One thing no one can explain though is why or how is TV Japan channnel 641 @ 119 (hawaii spotbeam channel location) showing up in the EPG lineup. When I tune to 641 I just get signal error message, some others have reported the same flagging error. 641 should not be showing up in conus EPGs @ 119. But we leave it alone because we don't want dish accidentally hiding from non subs 640 @ 118 again.

I did check today - the 640 is viewable from 118W for subscribers without the channel's sub.
Next block of free view is at 8pm, I'll check 641 also.

You know, 'hidden from non-sub' flag is set for EACH channel, so it should be pretty easy to hide ch641.

If they were to flag 641 @ 119 as hide from non subs then it will be hidden in Hawaii too and they won't get to see the free TVJ periods in HW. But even hidden from non subs 641 @ 119 will still show up for subs in conus and give a signal lost message, I think 641 needs a regional designation flag or something to hide it from conus subs and conus non subs, but they still need to keep it visible to non subs in HW for free TVJ periods. Point is 641 should only show up if you are in Hawaii and sub to Hawaii locals since it is on a spotbeam. But it is showing up for everybody in conus. So dish has the flags all messed up with regards to 641 @ 119. Cheyenne TOC didn't care either when they were working on the 675 @ 118 hidden problem a few months ago.

Who IT dept, talked to both TOC and IT, neither wanted to do a thing until TVJPN talked to them and made them make the channel visible again on 118, can't have free previews periods on a hidden channel. The whole time 640 @ 61.5 was unaffected during the time a few months ago when 675 @ 118 was
hidden, the issue with 641 has been going on for years.

"Error 120 You cannot view this channel outside the designated viewing area (so what is it doing in my EPG?)

    http://tech.dishnetwork.com/departmental_content/TechPortal/content/tech/error/120_222.shtml

    Cause
This message is displayed when accessing a Local channel after moving the receiver to a new location that is outside of the coverage area. If then going directly to a non-Local channel, this message may also appear.

    Prevention
Keep the receiver located at the “home” location when accessing Local channels. "

I get a different error#, searching for satellite signal on 119 channel up or down.
