New customer here, HR34 with three clients. Everything seems to be working ok except when I try to watch a VOD TV show (NBC - Revolution) for example, it displays in 480p. Display is a 2011 Panasonic GT30. Initially I had native "on" and all resolutions checked, I tried native "off" and got the same result, 480p as reported by the display. Unchecked 480i/p and now get 720p regardless of native setting. Any ideas?

    Thanks

CBS, NBC & ABC VOD content is only SD 480p quality. No HD. Hopefully that will change down the road.

Thanks for the answer and the welcome!

I did find a couple of networks that are in HD to prove my setup, I just happened to pick all SD networks in my initial troubleshooting. Is there a list somewhere that indicates what each network's VOD resolution is or is that just something gained though experience?

    Thanks Again...

I keep a full List of networks with HD VOD content available on DirecTV (updated regularly) in my signature. Of course it is nothing "official" or anything, just something I do on my own as I check on a regular basis for new HD VOD content. :) ;)

Not all content may be in HD on the specific networks but if the majority is I include it in the list, if only a couple of programs are then I specify it out to the side. If the VOD network is not listed then assume all content is only available in SD.

    Thanks for the effort Coolman.

Relative to your notes, what is a "linear channel"?

Traditional channel, where things run based on a schedule. Basically, not on demand.

I watched a VOD of NCIS and was disappointed to see it was SD. I didn't notice it was 480p

most likely, the SD stream is 480i, it's just the DVR do de-interlacing to 480p

It doesn't seem to be as I have all resolutions selected [that are supported by the TV] and noticed the 480p VOD. It wouldn't be in 480p if it wasn't sent that way.

I don't know who did what, but was surprised to see the VOD was 480p.
My Sony doesn't support 1080p/24 :)(), so everything needs to be 60.

I'm curious if the SD VOD 480p stream has 24 fps rate ...

480p/24 isn't something the receiver can output, and if it did, my Sony couldn't handle it.

not knowing how the BCM built and what is in FW of the DVR, I wouldn't discard the 480/24p mode for those TV what has advanced chips

I can only say that my Sony gives an "unsupported signal" message with 1080p/24 and it only works with 1080p/60 and all the other resolutions outputted by the receiver.

When your browsing on demand, the hd episodes are usually marked with a tag. If it doesn't have the tag its not HD but hopefully one day everything will be.
