Why isn't there a SD version of the new NHL network?

Not everything is in HD. Watching a 1979 Canadians/Maple Leaf game now.
My son who plays HS ice hockey never saw players without helmets. More than
half the players are not wearing helmets.

Exactly. A game from the '70s is definitley not going to be in HD. Why would they want to limit their viewership to HD only? Does the network have commercials?

Yes, there are ads. Mostly of Stanley Cup DVDs available on NHL.com. Also one
American Red cross ad. Another classic game on. Oilers vs Black Hawks, 1990
    playoffs.

About time E* did that! The calls changed last year.

What is missing is the EPG data for a channel E* doesn't carry from the same provider ... WMYS. Last week E* made the change to link the EPG for WCWW and WBND LP stations via satellite to the new OTA HD feeds.

I wrote a quick email to Tony for the Channel Chart with some info.

If you don't know me, I'm the Raymie of the Channel Chart. I mentioned that it could have easily been something in an FCC query or B&C article from last year, given how archaic it is. I ended the email with the following:

"Archaic CW/MyTV call letter changes free with every Uplink Thread order" (I give him most of the Wednesday content of the Uplink Thread)

The current event for WCWW is adding the HD station. Evidently the connection was not made last year when WMWB became WCWW (WB affiliate changing to CW affiliate).

On September 24th WCWW put their OTA low power digital station on the air (25.1) for testing (along with 57.1 WBND and 69.1 WMYS). They took it down 10 days later due to a needed correction on the construction permits then as soon as they got the new CPs put each station back on the air.

What didn't happen then was the mapping ... we have 25 and 57 via satellite but the 25.1 and 57.1 channels were not linking. It turns out that in order to make the link the station must broadcast a TSID in their OTA feed that E* then matches up to the EPG data. The FCC does not require LD (low power digital) stations to have TSIDs so WCWW and it's sisters didn't have one ... On October 10th they got their TSID, put it on the air, called E* and within hours the mapping issue was solved.

More information at AVSForums - (yes, I am Justalurker there)
    http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?p=11863853#post11863853

Evidently that contact with E* on the 10th was what sparked the eventual call letter change. The two engineers from the station are very active on AVSForums and have the contacts to get things done.

Last I checked D* customers are still not getting EPG for these channels. E* is ahead of the game by listening to these engineers and getting it done.

Next to watch for (for me) is a 14xxx/15xxx series EPG for WMYS 69.1 . This is an OTA LP station that E* does not carry via satellite. I'm hoping the ties to WCWW, WBND and the other Wiegle Broadcasting stations will get the EPG added.

It certainly is the calm ...

I was going to sarcastically post "there were 19 HDs added this week ... oh that was D*" but I'm not sure how well that would go over. :)

I was really hoping for something, maybe just one channel to keep everyone happy. I thought CNN-HD would be a good possibility since Dish had been negotiating with the company over TBS. I guess we'll just have to wait 'till next week.

DiSH Network does not need to respond to DIRECTV's thingy. DiSH Network has more national HD channels than any other provider. They are telling us that, anyway. :)

    http://biz.yahoo.com/pz/071018/129120.html

BTW: Some of DIRECTV's "HD" channels have little hope of having any HD content this year.
