Curious that there are 8 PPV channels with the same numbers 541-548 as uplinked a few weeks ago to 61.5°, both on the EA. Maybe 16 placeholders?

I noticed that the CBS affiliate is missing from both of these markets. WRKC is the CBS affiliate in Cincinnati (owned by Newport TV Group) and WLKY is the CBS affiliate in Louisville (owned by the Hearst-Argyle Television). I notice that some other markets only have 3 stations listed (instead of the four that you would expect). I don't know the other markets but I wonder if it is just the CBS affiliate that is missing or some other station.

Since these and the other markets added to 77 are not expected to go live until Nov. 19th it could be that the missing channels will be added (I sure hope so).

The activity on NOTAX is likely related to Chicago putting in a satellite tax.

I see that they uplinked locals in HD for my market... but then just some MPEG4 SD on some major networks, including NBC and FOX. Any idea why they might have uplinked only two networks in HD?

DISH has to have the deals with the stations to carry them in HD. Apparently only two stations are willing to accept what DISH wants to accept. :(

John I ran a check last night, and it showed 77 at 50 on the scale in green, but said not locked?

Thanks. Hopefully someone will budge. I'm so sick of all this fighting between Dish and content providers. :(

All of my OTA content has been great lately except KLRT (Fox) - one of the two major networks they didn't uplink in HD. I sure hope they manage to figure something out. What equipment do I need to see 77w?

They likely didn't have the name set on all active transponders.

What transponder were you looking at? I saw that the other day on transponder 15 and 18 but today all 15 transponders that I see a signal on show "locked - Echostar 77 West". It looks like they are still adjusting things. This morning some transponders (4 and 20) have considerably different signal strength than they did yesterday. Likely there will be more changes before the new markets go live (supposedly on Nov. 19th).

As James said, it could be a case of no agreement with the parent of the local station. However, in my market (Cincinnati), I called the station that is missing from the uplink report (a CBS affiliate). I was told their parent company does have a deal with DISH to carry their HD signal. It could be that DISH is still working on their facilities to get the signal to the satellite and we could see the missing HD locals added before they go live. I expect to see a lot more additions on the 77 degree satellite between now and next Wednesday.

It depends what you have now. For example, if you have a dish 1000.2 looking at the 110, 119, and 129 satellite you need to add another dish (either a dish 300 or 500) with a LNB Pro LNB. One cable from the new dish connects to the "sat in" port of the 1000.2 dish. Once you get the new dish aimed you run a switch test and you are done. As long as you subscribe to your locals your HD locals will show up as soon as they are available. There is no need to call DISH.

If you have some dish other than the 1000.2 you may require additional equipment (like a DPP-44 switch). Let us know what you have and we can tell you what you need.

    Aransay,

According to what I have been able to find out the holdup is approval from Cofetel (the FCC like regulatory agency in Mexico). MVS and Telmex are the main players in the service. DISH is mainly providing the uplink and satellite facilities.

DirecTV does not carry all four major networks in every market. In my market they only carry two. Personally I wish that DISH would carry what they could get and let the "missing" stations take the heat instead of having "missing" markets.
It probably is an uplink issue. Is the CBS uplinked in SD to Eastern Arc? If it is missing completely then who knows if it will be HD or SD by the time the market is released. Uplinked in SD is more telling.

    James,

Yes, it is uplinked in SD to the 77 degree slot (as are several other of my locals but not all of them). As I posted, I think that we will see a lot more changes before the (reportedly) 16 markets go live from 77 on Nov 19th.

I'm not sure what I have. I'll have to check my system info when I get home. I know I have a VIP 722 that was installed in early 2007 when I moved to my current home. I have one of the big dishes that has 3 LNBs.

That is what scares me. I would easily assume that they might uplink the others in HD before go-live if they weren't uplinked in SD. That seems like a fairly deliberate act. On the other hand, this would be the first time a Little Rock content provider has ever had a public dispute with Dish.

    Its a dish 1000.2

I don't know your expertise when it comes to satellite equipment. It is not that tough of job to install a second dish (compared to what many of us do in our daily jobs) but can be tricky if you have never installed one. You may want to contact an installer. If you are willing to wait, DISH may have a special deal to install a new dish. Once they get everything "rearranged" markets like your and mine will be moved officially to the "eastern arc" and we will be able to get a dish 1000.4. In your case it would replace the 1000.2 dish and you would not need a second dish.

I was wondering about that too. Some of us are no longer looking at 61.5 (I used my 61.5 dish for 77 and I get HD from 129). Maybe DISH feels that a lot of us will be doing that until the 1000.4 dish is widely available. They want to be sure that us "1/3 eastern arc" customers are getting all the PPV channels. :D

Right now in Baton Rouge, La dish only has locals in sd. However, ABC has been off almost a year due to price negotiations and now the one company that owns the nbc, fox,and cw affiliates are threatening to pull those 3 off 12-31-08 if dish doesnt pay them more money. I believe the stations should let dish carry them for free since they would then reach more people, but the stations are stupid.
If on 1-1-09 dish doesnt have abc, nbc, fox, and cw on their system, i think dish is going to get a lot of cancellations in the br area. Especially with Directv having the br locals also in HD
