    I'm in the Louville DMA and get my HD from 129 and the rest of my channels from 119 and 110 with a Dish 1000.4. Why are the Louisville local HD going to 77W? Will I need a dish pointed to 77W to get my HD locals?

    Donp,

    You don't have a dish 1000.4, you have a dish 1000.2. The 1000.4 is for the eastern arc satellites (61.5, 72.7, and 77). DISH is not installing them in our area yet. And, yes, you will need another dish to get the 77 degree satellite.

    The reason that DISH is putting your and my (Cincinnati) HD locals on the 77 degree satellite is that there isn't room anywhere else. Eventually (likely next spring) our cities will be able to get a dish 1000.4 installed but for now we can't (at least not by going through DISH).

    Here is how you can get 77 (and keep what you have): Either install a dish your self or get someone (a local installer) to install it for you. It needs to be a dish 300 or 500 (I recommend a dish 500 with an "I" adapter). It must have a DishPro LNB. You run one wire from it to the "sat in" on your 1000.2 dish. After you get it aimed all you need to do is run the switch test and your receivers will be able to see 129, 119, 110, and 77. I did that last week (using a dish 500) and I get a very good signal from 77 and just today some of the channels (no HD locals) became available from that satellite. Next week when our locals are turned on they will be available if you subscribe to you local SD package. You don't even need to call DISH.

    They were only uplinked on the AK spotbeam, not the HI one. Don't know why, but sure they have their reasons. I wish they would turn them on, oh yes I know, SOON!! :lol: :lol:

    This morning I checked a lot of the channels that were made available yesterday from the 77 degree satellite. All of my music channels that are in the 923 - 979 range now show that they are coming from 77 (you can press the info button twice to determine what satellite a channel is on). All the channels in the 1xx and 2xx range that were turned on yesterday are still coming from the other satellites (119 or 110 or 129).

    I have yet to figure out how a receiver determines where to get the channels from if they are from multiple satellites. Any clues John (or anyone else)?

    Bill R, how expensive do you think it would be for me to get a dish for 77w and install it myself?

    It depends on where you get it but I just looked on eBay and there are a few for less than $60 (with LNB and including shipping).

    You might want to check out your local flea markets or garage sales. When people discontinue service they have to send back their receivers, LNBs and switches but they get to keep the dish. Quite often people sell them really cheap ($10 or less) at those sales. Of course you need to get a LNB but those are fairly cheap. Another source for dishes is "garbage day". Every few months or so I see one sitting out by the curb in my neighborhood. I haven't stopped and ever picked up one but I should just to have a spare.

    It could be just for testing purposes. Or, it could have been DISH's original plans and some of the channels on 72.7 were just temporary until 77 was in place. The "eastern arc" (61.5, 72.7, and 77) are going to be carrying all the NATIONAL channels that 129, 119, and 110 are carrying. My guess is that 72.7 and 77 will be carrying the same NATIONAL channels as 110 and 119. 61.5 will be locals (eastern U.S.) and 129 will be locals (western U.S.). It will likely take at a year or more to get everything moved around, but, right now, that looks like the plans. There are still a lot of international channels on 61.5 but DISH has been moving a package at a time to 118.75. We don't know if all of them will be moved but it would free up space to put more locals on 61.5.

    There is one satellite launch scheduled for this year (to 129) and more planned after that. Eventually there will be a large spot beam satellite at 77 which will carry a LOT of the HD and SD locals for the eastern U.S. Also 61.5 will get another spot beam satellite but DISH might be able to (temporary) use an older satellite at that slot. Here in the U.S. we have 210 local markets. That is a LOT of SD and HD channels so DISH needs a lot of bandwidth to carry all those channels.

    As a speculation:
    - on second stage of acquiring signal your receiver collect all NIT from sat/tpn what you can see on TV screen, so incoming order will be defined by system tables on that sat/tpn;
    - your current switch matrix will define how filter out not available sats;
    - software will sort sat/tpn resulting table by TID;
    - channel table would be sorted by ch number and each ch entry will have a link to corresponding sat/tpn entry - here is moot point: how the link established if one ch reside on a couple sats ? Because SDT tables have multiple entries for such ch, what have a link to different TID.

    OK, just a question, why did the uplink report show only tp29 spot46? I thought they would be linked too, but that was all that the report showed.

    Thanks

    Thanks, your right 1000.2 not .4 and right now I get my HD local via OTA so i guess I'll wait for the 1000.4 to be available next spring. I also saw where a new satellite is going up and is to be leased to E* and positioned at 129 deg.

    Not for subscribers. The tables JohnH reads are the tables that tells the receiver where to go for the channels. There may be additional feeds on the transponders, there may be "unavailable" channels in the tables with no matching feed on the transponders. If DISH really messes up there can be "available" channels in the tables with no matching feeds on the transponders. :)

    It is on a new channel number (280) at 119. The 181 on 110 just has a message about the new channel number.

    Yes, the Ciel-2 satellite is scheduled to launch to the 129 slot on December 10th. If all goes well it will be in service in late January. The 129 slot (as well as the satellite) belong to Canada and DISH is just leasing capacity on that satellite. The 72.2 slot also is assigned to Canada but DISH owns the satellite there. The 77 degree slot belongs to Mexico and DISH has two satellites there, Echostar 4 for Mexican service and Echostar 8 for U.S. service. Satellite slots are assigned by international agreements but our FCC and their peers in the other countries allow companies like DISH and DirecTV to lease capacity from other countries.
