So I have a question on upgrading from SD to HD in my living room.

I currently have a R15-30 DVR in my living room that I would like to upgrade to a HD DVR.
The equipment I have in my system is as follows.

R15-30 in living room, H21/200 in bedroom, Slimline dish, and a MS6X8WB-Z-switch. I have 4 cables from the dish to the switch. I have 2 cables from the switch to the living room dvr. And 1 cable from switch to bed room.

So my thought is I should be able to simply change out the living room dvr from a SD to a HD DVR without having to run any more cables or changing out the switch. Is this correct?

With the current cable runs and switch what are my options?

I don't see an issue with that, as long as you don't want a Genie. You would need two BBC's, unless you happen to get an HR23.

Probably DirecTV is going to jam a Genie down your throat :rolling: , so if this is the case, you won't need any more wiring, but some modifications to the system must be made

Specifically, new LNB on the dish, new switch and $3 a month for Whole Home.

Or perhaps, a new SWiM LNB, the multi-switch changed out for a splitter and $3.00/mo. WH fee if a Genie is installed.

In any event, DIRECTV should set you up with whatever you need.

Going to SWiM is predicated on the R15 going away.

I'd go with a genie and a genie mini and let them do all the install. Your wiring will work fine and the system will be very easy to work.

Thanks for the reply's. I think I will keep it simple and have Directv mail me a HDVR to replace the r-15.
If not a H23 I will make sure I get 2 BBC's. Now on that note if they don't send me a H23 will they automatically send the BBC's I need?

is not automatic. you have to request them. but IIRC, they are only shipping out HR23 and greater

No, the HR23 does not need BBC, but the HR24 does need them.

If you're looking for a DVR, you better make sure you ask for an HR and not an H.

I'd be interested in what you end up with.
