The Sportspak issue is interesting. I also have Premier so I get the SP sort of by default with it included in the pkg. I don't know if I'd sub to SP if that weren't the case. It would be a tougher decision but during this season of college football, it was worth it for me due to the ESPN/SEC contract this year. I was able to avoid getting Gameplan since I had the SP regionals.

If someone doesn't have the Premier pkg, it's definitely a tougher call on this Vs/Sportspak opinion. Since we get SP anyway, it won't affect the Premier subs if Vs is moved into SP.

I get the SP largely because of access to pre- and post- game coverage for my favorite sports team (St. Louis Cardinals) as well as being able to see many more college basketball and football games that aren't otherwise available. For some reason, many (although not all) of the games that are available for purchase per the ESPN College BBall plan are free on Sports Pack if on certain networks. Also, if you are a fan of college hockey or lacrosse (I realize these aren't very mainstream but fun to watch nonetheless) you get plenty of those games. I find it a good deal and do not have Premier.

Everyone voices their opinion of the SP based on their viewing habits. There is plenty to see in the SP if you enjoy the sports they show. I added the SP because of a deal a CSR gave me, mainly because I thought VS might come back on in the SP. The only thing I watch lately is the Sabres post game shows in HD on MSG HD. I did watch parts of a few NCAA football games during the season. Although, most games I was interested in were on the major networks.

If we knew what Versus wanted per subscriber, it would be easier to see what the problem is. If Versus wants a lot per sub, it has to go into SP or a higher tier to keep the overall cost down. If they want $1.00 per sub, there is no way Directv is going to put in a low tier.

They may have lost a lot of viewers but I'm seeing no signs that there is any break in the dispute between Versus and DirecTV.

I did notice that the Versus/DIRECTV “bickering verbiage” is no longer the splash screen on ch. 603. Last night the splash screen was the DIRECTV logo. Maybe this is a good sign.

    How quickly people forget...

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Versus_(TV_channel)

In October 2005, OLN elected not to provide its NHL coverage to a number of distributors, including EchoStar (Dish Network) and Cablevision, which both refused Comcast's request to place Versus on a much higher-penetration package. During this time, Versus blacked out NHL coverage on these systems, replacing them with other programming. It is believed that the reason behind these blackouts had to do with a penalty fee that Comcast would have had to pay the NHL if they did not significantly increase their distribution.
