You all have very good points. Most make perfect sense. I just wish the two sides could agree and get this over with.

some teams are doing good just look at the blackhawks they went from being a small thing to a big one by being on CSN CHI and wgn 9 (Chicago only) after many years of not being on tv. in one year.

That's the real sad thing about this whole mess - The NHL needs as much exposure as they can get. They need viewers. The league seemed to be gaining momentum last year. There were a lot of great stories, like the Blackhawks.

Versus could be a part of that, and ride on the coattails of the NHL's momentum; what is good for the NHL is good from Versus. Not the other way around. Too bad they are so short sighted to see it.

Since the NHL likes bailing out failing franchises, maybe they can do something for their fans and cover the extra costs Communistcast is imposing on D*?

I'm not up to date on all the details on the situation but I read that Comcast/VS is asking D* $4 per subscriber for the station. Is that true or did I misunderstand something.

Then every other channel would want .50 a month or more....

That makes more sense. We all make mistakes from time to time. :)

Speaking of that article, it has one of the most salient paragraphs about this whole shebang:
Many parallels between the NFL Network vs. Comcast and DIRECTV vs. Comcast. Comcast force the NFL Network to lower their price to remain on the most common tier. Now Comcast is being squeezed in the same manner. I don't have enough info to judge who was right or wrong in either case, but sure enjoy the irony. :)

    Cheers,
    Tom

No problem! I'll gladly pay for those I wish to watch if offered at a fair price.

Interesting statement. What DIRECTV is trying to do is the same thing--get channels at a fair price. :)

VS sucks next to the CSN CHI team and there was a few games on VS that where cut for time on the VS feed and you need to go to your rsn to see the full game.

VS needs a alt / over flow HD feed.

also VS is some times is just the TSN feed.

The least the NHL could do is allow the broadcast of Versus games by the teams involved to the local marktets. Even the NFL and MLB allow that.

I agree the Bruins open up on October 1 and it is only on Versus no NESN at all.

That is an excellent suggestion, I never thought of that. Offer the game to a local OTA channel (which would have to buy the rights of course) so that the home market, no matter what gets to see the game.

what would be a good idea is carry the VS games on NHL Network or add a NHL Alt Channel like MLB does and carry them there

Then they are barking up the wrong tree with a fledgling channel like Versus. They don't need viewers. Evidently, they need money more.

If that happens then Versus will cease to exist. If the programming were portable like that then there would never be any incentive to negotiate at all. Versus will never release its contract rights. Settlement is more likely.

In today's newspaper the flyer for Directv no longer has Versus.

Because it is in the contract by the NFL and MLB, is it in the contract with Versus?
