I have been reading this forum for a few months now. Because of DBStalk.com I called Dish on 2/1 and and got my VIP622 installed on 2/22. Awesome machine. No major complaints. Only a minor one today:
The 622 is set to single mode for PIP capability. I was recording a SD channel and watching a OTA HD channel. I was also switching from the OTA HD channel and the HDnet channel. When I hit PIP on either HD channel I could only get the SD channel on the PIP I was recording instead of the other HD channel. What's the deal? Did I do something wrong? Thanks.
I believe the PIP is only for the two satellite inputs, so you won't be able to get your OTA one the PIP window. That's also the reason why you won't get PIP if you have set your receiver in dual mode.
That is not true at all. I use the PIP window for my OTA HD locals all the time.
What you are recording something and the local OTA channel is not in the PIP window what you have to do is go to the EPG and select the OTA channel. Once you are viewing it you can PIP to the other tuner. That can be what is recording on the second tuner or it can be the first satellite tuner. Again, as with the OTA tuner, it depends on what you select from the EPG.
A three picture PIP feature would be nice but the two picture PiP works just fine. You just have to understand how to use it to view what you want.
You are welcome. Yes, the ViP622 is awesome. By far it is the best DVR in the marketplace.
Like you I also have a receiver that is trouble free. I had problems with the earlier software releases but those problems have cleared up.
My only complaint about the ViP622 is with the lack of listings for my digital OTA channels (other than the xx-01 channels). Three of our PBS stations have their HD programs on channels other than the -01 channels and not having listings for them is a problem.
