Since we're still waiting on the R16's...

I figured it would be fun to come up with some wild --- guesses on what's new in the R16, compared to the R15.

So far, since the H21 and HR21 have already gone through their field trials, we know that the Big Change for both of them was lack of OTA tuners...

Well, since the R15 never had OTA tuners to begin with ... what else could the 'big change' be? Or will there even be a huge change from the R15?

Personally, I forsee an Ethernet jack in our future... and maybe even a larger disk drive. Given that costs are not linear, it may actually be cheaper to just buy the same drives used in the HR21 in a big bulk purchase.

    Time will tell!

Your thoughts ?? Hopes, wishes, dreams?

(One of the nice things about having this "private" forum is that we don't have to worry about inciting riots amongst the regular forums by speculating! It always seems that when even one person makes a WAG, someone else takes it as gospel - even swearing that "DirecTV promised..." Sheesh!)

I think it will have a larger hard drive and have the network connectivity to support future sharing of data between my HR20's and the R-16.:D

Probably the biggest difference is the R16 will support SWM while the R15 does not.

I am hoping the R16 will have network connectivity for it's own version of DOD.

Networking for sharing Photo's and Music from PC. Maybe wireless? Oh yeah, and with an external USB drive connection.

I'm pretty sure SWM was stated as one new feature. Networking capabilities, and all it brings (remote booking, media share, dod, mrv?) would be a huge bonus.

Well I just check out the pre order R16 page on Solid Signal and if the pictures are real It will not have networking or Composite video the RF antenna is built in and one of the manufacturers will be Phillips because on one picture of the back it was listed as R16-300. I do love how the front looks.

I still can't wait to get it.

I am curious to see if there will be an exterior redesign to make the R16 look more like the HR20, specifically the horizontal "cove".

If that picture is accurate (I would guess it is) I am disappointed that it doesn't have a NIC. I thought for sure it would support network connectivity for DoD, media share, MRV, etc. Maybe they will support an add on NIC through USB. Hmmmm...

I do like the color and the addition of the OTA antenna. Guess I'll get my S-Video and optical cables ordered. :)

Don't know if any of it's true but it is, in my opinion, the most attractive design to date.

Agreed. I think it looks great if it's real.

Bummer...no NIC in that pic either. Kinda hoped it supported DOD. Still can't wait to see it.

The picture in the brochure does say image for illustrative purposes only.
Maybe the holdup is a design change to add networking. wishful thinking:sure:
