I'm a little uncomfortable with the characterizing of overweight OR people who use those carts for other reasons here. If you had a run-in with a person with an attitude, that is just that person with an attitude. Using that as a platform to make fun of people in general is not something we should be doing here.

Let's take a step back from that.

I was careful to not bring up those who use such carts for reasons other than being too fat. As someone who has been significantly overweight, and still could lose 10-20 more lbs., I'm speaking from experience and not someone poking fun from the outside, but from the inside.

Everyone needs to find the South Park episode about Cartman using one of those carts. It's entitled "Raising the Bar." I swear that that episode aired right after my incident. How coincidental and funny.

Understood... but at the same time... even if someone is fat purely because of actual laziness doesn't give us the right to make fun of them.

Your example of the grumpy customer you encounter merits complaint, but my gut tells me that person isn't grumpy because she was fat and in a cart...but that she has a "I'm the best, don't get in my way" personality that would be there no matter her physical appearance.

Rude people take all forms, basically... which is why I wanted to caution & point out against generalizing and insulting based on just her being overweight.

My weight goes up and down too... but my personality is the same. I like to think I'm personable (in real life if not always online ;) ).

The behavior you described is unacceptable whether she was fat or not or driving a cart or not. I have encountered a few people like you describe, but I've also had conversations with some quite friendly people using those same kinds of carts who actually drove them responsibly too.

Most are responsible, I tend to believe. I posted the encounter because, say what you will, I found it darn funny. I'm almost tempted to say it was close to being a comedy routine.

It also reminds me of those Emails that go around showing real, actual pictures of Wal-Mart shoppers. Good Lord! Have you SEEN some of the Wal-Mart shoppers out there? If I EVER begin to look like any of them, shoot me. Just shoot me.

    Deal.

As for the people being insulted here I'll agree with Stewart. Lay off or move on.

No one's insulting anyone. I was relaying an "incident" that occurred. Back to topic now, though. :)
