Downloaded the app on my ipad and found that DirecTv is not available as a choice. Any chance DirecTv Subscribers can watch ESPN on the go via our ipads anytime in the near future? I'd like to be able to see some ESPN 3 Games. Is this a new channel?

ESPN will not sell it to anyone outside of a full contract negotiation. It's believed that Directv's contract is up in 2014. If you have access to ESPN3 from your ISP you can watch content on a computer, but not a mobile device.

    Here's a recent read:

"That's how ESPN handles its ESPN3 online-only channel. Its WatchESPN.com site welcomes subscribers of more than 340 participating Internet providers to watch as much as they want of ESPN3 subject only to regional blackouts."

"But tuning into that same channel in the sports network's WatchESPN apps requires that you also have TV service from one of only eight firms: Bright House Networks, Cablevision, Charter, Comcast, Cox, Midcontinent Communications, Time Warner Cable and Verizon Fios (with AT&T's U-verse coming soon)."

This is what aggravates me. Don't tell me to complain to my provider if their hands are tied about adding it, if YOU(ESPN) won't allow it until a full contract negotiaton.

If you have ESPN3 access on your home computer because of your ISP you can watch EPSN3 on ANY mobile device using the PlayOn app. This does NOT however, include the content available on WatchESPN.

ESPN3 is only available online, not broadcast. But it is included in WatchESPN.

It's frustrating for me. I get my Internet service from Time Warner, which offers ESPN3 to its customers who also receive ESPN via cable. But since I get ESPN via DirecTV, I don't have access. Maybe that will change with the next contract?

Get a slingbox and you can watch ESPN (or any of your D* channels) anywhere!

With ESPN3, though, you can see games that aren't offered on any of ESPN's TV channels.

That doesn't help with the games that are only available with Watch ESPN

Games that aren't airing on ESPN, ESPN2 or ESPNU are available on ESPN3.com. All WatchESPN provides is online viewing of what's airing on ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPNU. So if your ISP has access to ESPN3 and you have a Slingbox then you will get everything as if DirecTV had access to WatchESPN.

Another big advantage of WatchESPN over ESPN3 is that it's available as an app on iOS and Android. That's a big deal for those of us who don't travel with a PC anymore.

Of course it does. But Slingbox doesn't let me watch any of the games that are on ESPN3. The WatchESPN app is the only way I know of to watch those on phones or tablets.

I am having problems following this thread. I think some are thinking that WatchESPN is only for streaming of the ESPN channels. It is not. You get all the ESPN3 stuff as well. I have it and use it.

I think the confusion is that TGEWin can not understand that you can watch the ESPN networks via Slingbox and the rest of the ESPN3 content via the WatchESPN app even if Directv does not partner with ESPN on this, thus making it so you can still watch all the programming they offer using this method. If you are lucky enough to have a login for a WatchESPN affiliated tv partner (i.e. Verizon, Comcast) then you can watch all ESPN programming using the app without worrying about the slingbox aspect of it.

No, ESPN3 content isn't available via the app unless you have a valid tv provider. I had tried before, but just to make sure something hadn't changed since college football season, I tried again right now. Download the WatchESPN app. When you try to watch anything, it asks for your provider. If you select "No Provider", since DirecTV isn't a valid provider, it gives a message, "WatchESPN is only available to customers of providers listed on the previous screen. Contact your provider to request WatchESPN."

Even when I try to watch something that is showing on ESPN3 and not one of the tv channels, it brings up the provider selection.

So no, I'm not who is confused in this thread.

I have Comcast Internet and I'm able to sign in on the app using my Comcast email an watch games that are marked ESPN3. I can't watch the games that are listed as ESPN, ESPN2 or ESPNU games though.
