Hello. I just called DTV and am set to have my equipment upgraded tomorrow. I just want to make sure I get the best system running I can so I may have to call them back to change the order. I currently have five receivers: H24-100 receiver only(3), HR20-700, and a HR24-200 HD DVR.

I have two 2012 Samsung Smart TVs which could be used for the RVU set up. However I have read that this system is slower and not as reliable (dropped connections).

The CSR gave me five free upgrades since I haven't had one for so long.
What should I go with? Obviously, one will be the genie. Should the rest be C41W's? Or just regular C41's? Is one better than the other?
What will be the most reliable and quickest operating setup? Id like to have it as clean as possible.. Basically no more holes.
I already have the whole home dvr setup currently. We plan to use the DVR quite a bit as well as on demand programming. Any information is appreciated! Thanks.

Edited to reflect that the HR24-100's are just receivers.

Keep the 24s and replace the HR20 with a Genie, preferably a HR44.

Note that there is only one VOD download per DVR at the same time, downgrading to minis would mean that Genie and minis can only do one VOD at the time. If you use VOD a lot, best to stick with your HR24s instead of minis

I believe it is the Samsung RVU software that is slow in getting upgrades.

The only real old DirecTV equipment you have is the HR20. The HR24 are still considered new. You gain nothing in switching them out for C41s. So keep 'em.

It is a shame that you don't save money when you select to lose tuners and hard drive space, but there is zero money gain for giving up these things.

Thanks everyone. You all pretty much said the same thing. I do have a question though.. Are the HR24-100's supposed to be capable of video on demand? I don't have that option on any of them so if they are I had no idea. And to be quite honest, don't know how to get it. The only "extras" option I have is for the TV Apps. I can only get VOD and Pandora on my HR24-200 HD-DVR.

Would the only real benefit of a C41 be the ability to pause, FF, etc live TV?

Yes, the HR24-100s are the same as the -200. Are the -100s connected to the Internet?

    It skips right over it.
On the HR24-200, everything just comes up in the "Extras" area. So that's why I wasn't sure if there's something special needed for the -100's to get VOD content.

Make sure you are not using a custom guide. if the other DVRs just got connected to the internet, it will take 24 hours to get VOD

I should add that the HR-20 gets it too.

No custom guide. I've had the above equipment since November 2010 it looks like. The installation tech never mentioned the HR24-100's have VOD capability and I guess I've never questioned it since I didn't see it on any of them.

I hate to ask, but here it is. These are HR24 DVRs and not H24 receivers?

The three HR24-100's are just regular HD receivers. The HR24-200 is the HD-DVR.

There we go then, they are H24s, so cannot do On Demand, Youtube etc. That requires a hard drive.

Sorry, I wasn't clear to begin with. Should have specified that they were regular HD receivers. I wasn't aware they had both H24-100 DVRS and H24-100 regular HD receivers.

So with all that being said, would it be advantageous to swap the regular HR24 receivers to C41's/C41W's? Swap the H20 for the HR34/HR44(preferably), and keep the HR24-200 HD-DVR?

Supposed to be H24.. not HR24-100.
