Are you sure you want an H20?

Even if you don't think you will ever record a program, you will at some point want to pause to get the phone, eat, etc.

Even if you are watching live TV, you still will want to replay a great play or a funny scene.

You will already be spending $10 a month on the HD and $6 a month on DVR service no matter how many HD DVRs you have. Over 24 months that's almost $400 whether you can use it on one TV or more.

Just something to think about but have you ever heard of anyone who wished that they did not have DVR capabilities?

Regardless, here are the HD DVR (HR20) Ordering Tips.

    Take care,

    - Craig

I completely agree Milominderbinder2. Even if I could only get a single sat line to an HD DVR, I'd still rather have trickplay ability than not.

Even if you don't think you will ever record a program, here are some reasons to consider an HD DVR instead of a basic HD receiver.
    1. Skip up to 25 minutes of commercials and credits an hour.
    2. Watch a 60 minute show in 35 minutes.
    3. Even if you are watching live TV, you still will want to replay a great play or a funny scene.
    4. Pause to answer the phone or the door, get something to eat or drink, etc.
    5. If you really like two shows on at the same time, watch one and record the other.
    6. Never miss your favorite programs.
    7. Record the news so that when you get up or get home you don't waiting for a story to come up again.
    8. Always have some of your favorite shows recorded for when you have a moment to watch TV.
    9. Same monthly receiver cost of $4.99 whether it is a DVR or not.
    10. Same monthly DVR of $5.99 no matter how many DVR's you have.
    11. Same monthly HD Access cost of $9.99 no matter how many HD receivers.
    12. Play mpg3 music from your PC.
    13. Watch jpg photos from your PC.

Has anybody gotten a deal where they didn't have to get a new commitment?

Just called, talked to CSR only. Been with D for 8 years, Premier package, Sunday Ticket, SuperFan, ESPN Game plan for as long as they have been available. Anyway, I am trying to get 2 HD DVR's. CSR told me that I could get one for free, but have to pay $299 for second. He suppossedly noted my account so that "I can think about it". Really trying to get both for free, but I probably should have taken the offer. Any thoughts? He also said that I could get HR20 free and H20 for $99. Didn't go to retention, should I?

I completely understand what you guys are saying (I have three dvrs now) - and I would gladly take 3 HR20s if they would give them to me for a great deal. So far they haven't offered anything better. I may try to drop one of the H20s ($99 one) if I can still get one for free - not sure if I had to get both to get the one for free. I would plan on calling back later on and trying to get additional HD20s, but they don't seem willing to part with more than one for a discount. Any additional one is still $299. I've got plenty of time to decide - so I'll keep checking to see if I can get a better deal. But I would be happy with this one.

Well, I got onto directv.com last nite to see about moving up the installation date, and, when I displayed my Orders it was listed as Unscheduled now. WTF? I'm just about done with DirecTV at this point - I have spent untold hours on the phone trying to get my order straight, when I finally do, they changed it to unscheduled & it say's that they'll call me within 72 hours to schedule an install date. I have a printed copy of my original install date of 11/1 at 8am. Argghhh, now I have to spend another hour on the phoe with them, but, I'll most likely cancel out this time - Moxi & cable here I come...

I just signed up for the upgrade and the earliest time I got was oct 25th, morning or afternoon available. First available weekend was november 3rd.

I was able to get the HR20 for 99 dollars, they waived the other 100 and the 20 dollar shipping charge. Free install of the slimline dish. Removal of my two old dishes. And 6 free months of HBO.

Can't wait to see those new channels:D

This happened to me this past saturday or sunday. I called in and they said they were updating their system and they would call me if they had any issues with scheduling. I checked later (maybe sunday morning) and all was back to normal with my original schedule date of 10/26. So I tried to reschedule and there were several open slots much earlier. Now my install is this Friday....pretty happy with that.

I would say keep checking the view orders page. It will probably come back as it was before.

No offense...but my cable company can't hold a candle to D* in terms of channels, price or service...despite these annoying things that keep happening with D*. If you do switch...I hope your cable company doesn't suck as much as mine does.

When I got my deal on Oct 7, the earliest was Oct 24, which I couldn't do...the next best was Nov 1. I have since been able to reschedule it twice moved it all the way up to this Friday Oct 19th.

I hope that someone has a suggestion:

I've been with DirecTV since 1995 with Total Choice Plus with HBO and Starz, 2 receivers a R15 and a standard. I've called twice and the best deal I've been offered is $99 + $19.99 S/H charge for a HR20, new dish, installation, with 3 months of Cinemax. I've followed the script, when I asked about "hearts" they had no idea what I was talking about, is this normal?

Does this seem like a good deal or should I keep trying for something better?

Just got my deal done after 45 minutes on phone. Called earlier today and was told free HR-20 and $99 for H-20. When i called back, the lady that I spoke with said that the deal was not supposed to be offered anymore, but after talking to someone, she said that they could do it. There were notes on my account to verify this (thankfully). Anyway, got HR-20 totally free and H-20 for $99 that I had to pay for right then. No problem. She had to write it on two separate orders which means two install times (6-8 am) for the H-20 (just drop off) and (8 am-12 noon) for the HR-20 and install. That is on Oct. 26. Verified the orders, thanks for the script. By the way, she never mentioned a 2 year contract at all. Don't know if she forgot, or if I don't have one. Is there a way to verify that online? Don't really want to call back and open that can of worms. Also, on the 2 installs, she said that she was escallating it to try to put them together. Either way it seems like a good deal. Thanks Milominderbender2 and DBSTalk. :)

I've been reading this thread for a while now, and I have only 1 final question before I call to get my deal. For the deals that include 6 free months of HBO (for example), does that hinge upon a year subscription to HBO or something similar?

In other words, I'm not interested in free HBO unless I can get rid of it once it's not free anymore.

    Thanks for everyone's help.

Nope, there is no requirement to keep HBO beyond the 6 months. The onus is on you, however, to call and cancel HBO when your free 6 months is up.

    Hi Everyone
I'm returning to D* after many years with Dish because of the HD rollout and, for next Summer, MLB.

    The deal I got:
    Choice XTRA
Free installation of HD box and 1 standard box
Free HD box, SD box @$5/month lease
$50 Visa card (if I ever get it)
    $100 credit ($10/month fro 10 months)

That stuff was all on the website, but because I called and talked to a rep (or so he said), I also got the whole shootin' match - Premier package and NFL Sunday ticket free for 4 months. So my intention is to pay for the normal fee for Choice Xtra and cancel the other stuff as 4 months approach.

    Here's what I got:

    Qty. Description Each
    1 CashBack_DummyName_29280 $0.00
    1 DIRECTV® 5-LNB Multi-Satellite Dish $0.00
1 DIRECTV® HD Rec. (Expanded HD Prog. Capable) $0.00
    1 DIRECTV® Multi-Satellite Dish System $0.00
    1 HD Access_Tier 8 P000006380000000001 $0.00
1 NFL SUNDAY TICKET New Customer Offer: 4 Payments R6104/25 $0.00
    1 PREMIER First 4 Months Free P2244/70 $0.00
    1 Standard IRD $0.00
    Installation Included $0.00
    Handling and Delivery $0.00
    Tax $0.00
    Total

So here are my questions prior to my installation appointment in a couple of days:

    1. What STB should I expect, or perhaps better yet, what should I ask for? I did NOT sign up for DVR. Does it look like I'm getting a DVR even though I didn't order it?

    2. I read somewhere to insist on a test of Sat 103b and make sure it gets a strong signal. Correct?

By the way, since people are asking, my install date is 3 days after I placed my order, which I'm happy about.

    Thanks in advance.

Oh yes. You don't let that installer leave until you actually see signal strengths for 103(b) at least 85% or higher. And don't let them dissuade you otherwise, else you will be doing what I've been doing for three weeks. Doing the DirecTV tech dance to the customer service waltz.

You will receive the H20 (HD receiver). Personally, I'd try to get a HR20. Once you go DVR..you never go back.;) :D

Yes. Call back and take the deal!

Unless you have a now obsolete HR10, this is as good as anyone is doing.
