Then if there is a big enough demand for Hot Pass then why not make it a subscription service like it was in the beginning to cover it's costs. Since they got rid of all the channel reporters, which cost money for the talent and production folks, like they had back then maybe folks would subscribe at a reduced costs.

NASCAR Hotpass has sponsors and is not paid for by DirecTV themselves. Getting rid of it wouldn't free up money for other channels.

But how much of that other stuff you watch is content that DIRECTV is spending money on to produce or license from someone else.

I didn't want to go down the lets get rid of such and such national channel, like a Disney, Discovery or Turner/TW, but channels that DIRECTV is paying for the content for their own branded channels. Should they be spending money on a program like Damages, something that wasn't making money on a network channel or NASCAR HotPass which I'd guess if it was a money maker when they charged for it they'd still be charging for it?

Do we really need all the hardcore PPV channels? The 101 is one channel. Hot Pass is one day a week for 4 hours.

I wouldn't give up anything that makes money. It cost would get passed back to me. It's not worth it for a couple of channels.

Voted get rid of both but actually neither would be necessary. Capacity isn't the issue. Just charge more for a higher end package and offer what we are missing.

My locals, which I can get for free with an antenna, and costs DirecTv a bundle to carry.

I watch a LOT of Concerts and music shows on The 101. If they get rid of this one, I would hope they would replace it with Fuse HD.

So get rid of a money maker, Hotpass, in favor of 3 money spenders?

I'm all in favor of BBCA HD and Hist Int'l HD but your logic is flawed.

Our recent bill hike will more than cover the cost of two HD channels. ;)

Let's not forget, the so called "money spenders" make money too. How many people are waiting on their favorite channel to be in HD before moving to DIRECTV?

What I intended to say was that neither would have to go. DIRECTV has a fixed idea that more national HD is not a money maker. What I would be willing to 'give up' is money for a higher end package or sub package.

To clarify losing either be acceptable for me if that was a real alternative. But it isn't necessary. DIRECTV has more than enough capacity to add HD channels. Add the channels and charge enough to make it mutually beneficial already.

Get rid of Hotpass, make it a pay channel like it used to be.

    I really like The 101.

Oh, and they can have Versus back too.
