Was "HD DVR-Plus" not available?
Eh. I got nothing.
I know its only par!
I like Avatar a lot.
How about using cool color names and doing a series?
We should ask our wives what they would want to call it. DIRECTV needs to get beyond their base market of a bunch of guys sending notes to each other about their TVs.
So anything that that is not a bunch of letters, numbers, or an acronym would be better.
DirecTV Plus HD DVR!
Just kidding. We have a company with (IMO) one of the coolest names out of all TV service companies, and yet their flagship receiver has the dullest name it could possibly have. I guess there really isn't any need for a cool name, but it would be nice.
I second that. How bout" DirecTV Plus HD DVR.
We could also call it our Lifesaver.
I d have one question though.. as much as we are on the boards, does anybody have time to use their HR20?
I thought it might be cool to call it by one of the names of the satellites of our outer planets. But then I reviewed the names of said satellites--some are kind of cool, but some definitely not:
Titan <<<<<<<<< cool, but in reality this satellite is cloud-covered
Hyperion <<<<<< has potential
Phoebe <<<<<< prob not cool
Ariel <<<<<< reminiscent of the Disney character
Titania <<<<<< possibly
Proteus <<<<<< possibly
Triton <<<<<<<<< cool
The "Uranium U234 Space Modulator"
Have you not heard of multi-tasking?
My laptop is on a credenza behind the couch facing my 56" Sammy DLP. I can do a lot of "live" (forum based) testing from this "position". In fact, I use the TV (in terms of raw hours) more like a multi-channel radio than a TV. Except for prime time with "she who must be obeyed", 90% of my viewing is news. (Although I consider FOX and Link-TV more propaganda vehicles than news networks). This is not to say they have nothing to offer (and is WAY off topic), but Fox's "fair and balanced" is anything but, and Link-TV's Democracy Now should be retitled, "Effluvia of the Revolution".
How about :
I really like this, but using all upper case in gray except for DVR in blue :
"DIRECTV proudly reintroduces the ENDEAVOR line of High-Definition DVRs: HR20-700 and HR20-100 ..."
Definitely [strike]better[/strike] than my second choice of:
The Blue Light Special
I like Endeavour, but I prefer this spelling. Also, Hyperion has a great ring to it!
D*HD Time Machine
Same here.... Although I was thinking AppleTv with DirctTV
IF the box were to live up to its full potential and deliver VOD and full multimedia capabilities, including streamed network video, I'd call it "Synergos".
But for now, I'd call it "Almost There".
I know this is an old thread, but I have had naming ideas on the back burner for a couple of weeks. My suggestion, weak I know and surely full of legal ramnifications, how about "Divo" ? Too much time on my hands, maybe when D10 takes its first breath I'll get better.
How about "Phoenix" as a name for the HR20? This product has definitely risen from the ashes and is reborn (at least if you compare it to the functionality or lack thereof that we had a year ago). Not to mention the fact that we all "went through the fire" with this product. Come to think of it, I can recall wanting to burn it a couple of times when it lost recording or rebooting spontaneously.
How about tornado? The blue circle spins, hypnotizes, and then sucks you in with the great dvr and the upcoming HD!
I love these names...
Direct TV magic box with blue ring that records your favorite shows thingy; Hank the Fantastic;
Thanks for looking.
