What's going on with GenieGo?

Hi everyone. I tried to do some digging in older threads but I'm not having much luck. I received an email the other day saying my GenieGo is discontinued and will no longer work in a few weeks. I followed the instructions to disconnect the GenieGo and to set up my HR44 as the MobileDVR.

Is this supposed to work exactly the same as when I had my GenieGo? I used to be able to see all my recordings from all three DVRs in my whole home system and be able to download them to my iPad. Now I'm only seeing a few shows from my Playlist. It also seems the transcoding takes far longer than it did on my second gen GenieGo.

I'm a little frustrated right now. Thanks for the help.

My equip:

HR44-700
HR24-500
HR24-100

all connected by whole home

PS: I did reboot all boxes and reinstall the iPad app after I removed the GenieGo as a first step in troubleshooting.

And I'm one that is going to keep my GenieGo working as long as I can.

After that, I'll have to change most of the recordings from my HR24 to the Genie and move some shows off the Genie so there are no conflicts and family can still watch the main TV with the Genie.

But storage space maybe an issue for us. I have an external USB drive hooked up to our GenieGo and if we transcode all the shows we do know, we're not going to have the space on the Genie.

Can I go back to my GenieGo2 and keep it as long as I can or am I screwed since I did the MobileDVR thing?
As of next month they're pulling the GenieGo external box and you need to use the internal function. Wish they didn't pull the support but they just don't care anymore. You should have, or will be, getting an e-mail giving you the bad news.

Thanks for the replies. It's a shame that the Geniego is being replaced by an inferior system. I think it stings me a bit more since I apparently bought my GenieGo2 days before they stopped selling it. I probably would've passed if I knew what their future plans were.

I got that email yesterday 9/9/16. So is that GenieGo box now just a piece of junk? Just throw it away?

Bummer on the news...I have not received the email yet for my GG2 that just was upgraded last January for the GG1. I have so many recordings on all my other non-genie DVR's. Thanks AT&T.

I havn't gotten the email yet... but My question.. Does this only apply to people that have an HR44/HR54? I have an HR34 and geniego.. So I don't have an option of internal... If they are discontinueing my GenieGO, they better replace My OWNED HR34 with an HR44 or HR54 for free.

And maybe their policy changed since I got mine replaced earlier this year. At that time they were not selling them anymore but still supporting them through the protection plan when my GG1 died.

Mobile DVR will be coming to HRx receivers in the future via software update. And my understanding is that HR34 is getting the same.

What you're seeing is correct. You can only download content from the Genie, not from other HR2X receivers. I'm another customer not happy with the change.
Major suckage. I got the email about 2 weeks ago, call DTV today and they are shipping my new Genie HD DVR. However I had NO idea it would only allow shows from that unit to be copied to the iPad. Now I'm bummed. I've got an HR24-500 downstairs that holds most of the shows I put on my iPad. I guess the only good news is the Genie HD DVR can record 5 shows at once and holds more hours of material, so I'll bw loading it up now.

The HR20s are already fairly slow compared to something like the HR54. I am skeptical that they can transcode on the fly when even the HR54 does a fairly lousy job of it. I suppose some form of Mobile DVR where it can only prepare it in the background for later downloading/streaming, but I doubt it will be the same as the current implementation on the HR44/HR54.

I've heard if you have an HR34 or before you should get an email or letter about a no commitment upgrade if you purchased the GenieGo from DTV

If anything I could see them maybe allowing an HR20 to stream a show to a hr54 and let the 54 transcode. But I don't ever expect genie go on any two tuner DVR. Or the HR34. If it was possible the HR34 would have gotten it when the hr44/54 did IMHO.
