I'd say that 140°F is right near the upper end of how hot this thing should get. I'd certainly look for ways to make sure it doesn't get that hot

My HR20 ran 128 before I added an external fan (See below). It now generally runs in the mid-90's. 140 seems pretty high.

I purchased one of each of the following items from The Cooler Guys:

    * CS 110v AC to 12v DC Power Supply with 4 Pin Molex Adapter
    * Scythe S-FLEX (SFF21D <----this is the silent version) 120mm Dynamic Fluid Bearing Fan

Total cost was $29.44 plus $9.38 shipping -- bringing the total to $38.82).

I put the fan (which is absolutely silent by the way) on top of my HR20-700 which was running a fairly consistent 128 degrees most of the time. When I added the fan, it went from 128 to 97 in under an hour! That's a 31 degree drop! I've observed the temperature for another hour and it seems to be stable at 96-97.

Thanks for the info guys. My HR20-700 is in a cabinet, stacked on top of the receiver. I suspect the receiver makes it a lot hotter, as this morning, I checked the internal temp. after having all the components off all night, and it was 124F instead of 140F. I'll try the lifting the HR20 up with blocks and order a fan and see what happens. Maybe I now know why my HR10-250 was so flakey!

A fan to get the hot air out of the cabinet would be helpful in this situation. 124 is good, 140 is likely within the tolerance range, but it really should be cooler than that.

Where in Setup is the temp? I can't seem to find it in any of the categories. I thought it would be in the info section but didn't see it there. I have a HR20-100.

It is in the info screen. You need to scroll down one page to see it.

You may wish to purchase something like this: link Either put it on top of the HR20, or put it between your receiver and the dvr. Honestly, you should never stack any components on a receiver or an amp.

My HR20-700 is in an enclosed space, 1-2" on either side and less than an inch to the shelf above. It was running at 128 degrees. I purchase a pc cooling pad, placed it on top of the unit, plugged it into the usb port and the temp is now between 112-116 degrees.

My neighbor has the -100 and it runs at about 107 degrees in a fairly open entertainment center.:)

127 degrees in open cabinet. My new esata feels hotter than that but I don't know what temp they are supposed to be.
