What is a safe temp for the HR20's? I have the HR20-100s and mine shows 91*F right now. Is that pretty much safe/normal?

I'm curious what all the different models of HR20's show for a temp and also the new HR21's.

That temperature is just fine. HR20-700s run into the high 120s, HR20-100s can go up into the 110s, and HR21s, well I don't have a lot of data but I think they tend to be about the same as HR20-100s.

So what's the maximum temp the HR20 can take without turning itself off? I saw one my DirecTivos do this before (The fan had died, but I didn't know).

My -100 now runs in the low to mid 90's; in the previous location (on top of a receiver) it was 110-117.

My -100 is at 93 degrees with a Targus Chill Mat underneath. Can't tell for my -700 as the TV repair guy has ripped the guts out of my TV.

    HR20-700: 127F
    HR21-700: 118F

The only one I had with heat issues was a H20-600 but it didn't display the temperature.

Me either, except right after a reboot, before the sensor has been read.

Without a fan, my HR20-700 runs 127. With my fan, 98.

HR20-100 runs 102, no fan, in a fairly chilly house (we wear sweaters).

Another HR series DVR runs 109 with no fan.

All of my receivers are not stacked and in the open air, with good ventillation.

Chill Mat? What's that? Some new-fangled piece of technology? Time for some googling.

BTW, My HR21 is around 120 deg. at this very moment.

    Thanks,
    Mike

    I think I win.

I checked my HR20-100 yesterday after it was on for 3-4 hours to make sure I got the update.

    89 degrees.

Why would anyone need to buy an external cooling device for the box? I would expect the thing to be engineered with the proper cooling in the first place.
