That's about it, unless you go through a local independent installer.

That's what I did when I got my HR20-700 three years ago. An excellent installer/reseller in Sparta, Wisconsin - Dean's Satellite - could offer me the advertised deal of the moment, which matched DirecTV's, and I paid $120 more for the install because only the parts were free. It was money well spent considering I knew too much of DirecTV's free installs in this area. I wanted something better.

But then, you know all about this. Going through your posts, you're making the big switch right now from Dish to Direct.

    Welcome aboard, G. :)

You know, I think they should offer two options for people who are misunderstanding the "cap cost reduction" of the leasing of the receiver. DirecTV should offer the equipment to customers as a monthly lease fee of like $15 each ($5 mirror fee and $10 box fee). They would make more money over the life of the contract (especially if people kept it longer than 2 years) than they do now and it would give people another option to pay for the boxes.

If they did this, they could still offer the box for $199 (special prepayment discount offer) if you paid it all upfront as a 1 time charge.

If I did not have to pay $200 upfront, I might be more inclined to have more than 1 or 2 HD24 boxes is my home.

If you go to www.bountii.com, you can sometimes find really good deals. Last week there was a coupon code for HR24s at 6th Avenue Electronics for $170. That's gone now, but you never know what might pop up in the near future.

I check there all the time. Last year I got a great deal on a Kenwood DNX910 head unit for my car and a Onkyo TX-SR707 receiver for the home entertainment center. I think both came through 6ave.com.
