If you worried about a member - read his page, like this http://www.dbstalk.com/member.php?u=2604
Funny that is the page where I got the info on his last post.
As an ex officio mod, I can confirm that the mods are usually on duty some of the time, more or less. After a hard day of modding, they frequently gather down at the moderators' bar around the corner to hoist a few and try to forget the trauma of trying to keep this bunch of hooligan users under control. I occasionally stop by to revel in recollections of the golden days of moderation, of which there are few.
It's a tough job and believe me when I say these guys earn every cent we pay them!
I too wonder where James Long is. It appears that he is no longer actively involved with the forum. I really enjoyed the uplink report. I also found him very knowledgeable about the issues we discuss here. He was a very active moderator. Of course, at times I disagreed with him, and we argued over a few issues.
I do believe that the lack of the uplink report is a significant loss. I hope that it returns soon.
I think his crankiness got the better of him.
Uh oh. Now I've done it.
Wonders why the lengthy absence of James Long and Tom Robertson?
Maybe because they have a life?
I'm sorry ... I've been working on other projects and the last I saw my reports were being reposted here from my website.
My website ( http://uplink.jameslong.name/updates/ ) is automated and has kept up with every change. I am not in a position to drop everything and post here every time DISH makes a change (and we do not allow automated posting to DBS Talk). There is an RSS feed on my website for those who want real time updates.
The root of the uplink site ( http://uplink.jameslong.name/ ) has the lists, normally updated each morning (although software does crash occasionally) - and the core site at http://jameslong.name/ has satellite coverage diagrams and other charts. Anything that can be automated is.
I am fortunate enough to have a job ... I didn't have one when I took on tracking Uplink Activity in June of last year. Working means I can't post when I'm being paid to do something else for my employer (yes, I know some of you do post from work but you're not me). That limits me to a few hours a night for all of my hobbies. I gave a couple of my neglected hobbies more time over the past couple of months. Amazingly there is life beyond DBS!
Well... I guess we were told.
